７年も女房子供といっしょにいなかったアメリカ出身の日本人が、アメリカで浮気をして、それまで日本で暮らしていた女房子供をアメリカに呼び寄せた翌日に離婚を申し立て、離婚成立後翌月に愛人と結婚。この状況で日本に子供を連れ出し、妻との話し合い余地も、他の法的手段の余地もありながら、女房を羽交いじめしてこどもを奪いさろうとした、事件である。
今回のケース、あるいは類似のケースであきらかになったのは、残念ながら、むしろ欧米人と結婚した日本人妻の中にいかに、DVや浮気などで、虐げられているケースが多く、しかも、欧米人男性に都合のわるい側面は平気で覆い隠そうとしている西洋のマッチョな報道がいかに多いか、ということであった。
日本側もこうした点に配慮して、現行のハーグとは別に新しい国際標準を提案していってもよい、と思う。
Half a million animals killed as surplus stock

Some 450,000 animals bred for animal testing were killed last year because they were surplus to requirements or the wrong sex, according to a new report from the food and consumer product safety authority VWA.
The surplus animals, which cost the animal testing industry €2m, included mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs and apes, the report shows.
In total, more than a million animals were bred for use in laboratories in the Netherlands last year.
The number of actual experiments carried out on animals was down slightly on 2007, the VWA said. Some 52% of the experiments were for scientific study and 37% in connection with developing new drugs.

Chicago Club Accused Of Racism Over Dress Code

その一端、外国人お断り、ならぬ、黒人お断りのケースの続報であるが、
"I find that incidents like the one that occurred at Mother's really speak to a new set of discriminatory codes that are being administered or employed at certain places," said Herman Brewer, acting president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League, whose daughter happens to be a recent Washington University graduate.
He says policies like those at Mother's and increasingly at bars, clubs and restaurants all around the country are much more than dress codes.
"They are discriminatory codes. They are ways of profiling people based on their appearance that are not in any way representative of who those people are," Brewer said. "It's sad, but it reminds us that despite the progress that our nation has made [on race relations] over the years, there is still much more work to be done.

Four more people will sue a SoHo hot spot Tuesday, accusing it of turning them away at the door because they were black. And they want $1.5 billion in damages.
This is the second suit filed against the tony Greenhouse club on Varick Street accusing it of discrimination.
Raqiyah Mays, 30, a radio host from Brooklyn, and three others say that they were not let in "due to their race."

黒人だという理由で眼鏡店（大阪府大東市）に入るのを拒否されたとして、米国人男性が慰謝料など５５０万円の損害賠償を求めた訴訟の控訴審判決で、大阪高裁は１８日、請求を棄却した１審大阪地裁判決を変更し、店の経営者に３５万円の支払いを命じた。
田中壮太裁判長は、経営者が「向こうに行ってくれ」と退去を要求したと認定。「人種差別と認めるには不十分だが、社会通念を逸脱した一方的で理不尽な行為だ」として精神的苦痛による慰謝料を認めた。
男性の弁護士は「差別を認めなかったのは不当だが、退去要求だけにしては高額な慰謝料を認めており、裁判所が一定の理解を示したのだろう」としている。
判決によると、京都府精華町のデザイナー、スティーブ・マクガワンさん（４２）は２００４年９月、知人と検眼のために眼鏡店に入ろうとした際、出てきた経営者に強い口調で「道路の向こうに行ってくれ」などと複数回にわたり言われた。
マクガワンさんは「出て行け。黒人は嫌いだ」と言われたと主張したが、判決は「聞き誤りの可能性もあり、認めるのは困難」と退けた。（共同通信）
当たり前のことだが、人種や国籍などによる入店拒否をしたら、日本でもアメリカでも違法であり、裁判になれば、損害賠償など問題になる。
一部白人の日本人らが、日本にはこうしたことに対して対抗する法的手段がないなどと誤解を招く宣伝をしていたが、とぼけた輩である。
もっとも、一部在日外国人が人種差別的であったり、２重基準の伝家の宝刀を振り回す偽善者だからと言って、日本人の側が同様に人種差別してよいわけではなない。人種差別的な人は白人でも日本人でも、国内でも国際的にも認められない。

Poll: 61% of voters in Arizona approve Arpaio's job approach

Arizona voters like Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's approach to his job and disagree with the federal government's immigration-related decisions with the sheriff, according to an Arizona State University and Channel 8 (KAET) poll released Tuesday night. The poll indicates a 61 percent job-approval rating for Arpaio, while 34 percent of voters disapproved, according to a telephone survey of 652 registered voters around the state
