Yesterday I went to the Asakusa Engei Hall 

and watched a rakugo performance and Sumiyoshi Odori dance.
The Engei Hall was crowded because 

it was Obon. The admission fee was also Obon-special.
Origins of Sumiyoshi Odori
① This dance was performed by local residents 

to celebrate and welcome Empress Jingu's return 

from her expedition to Silla.
② The monks of the Jinguji Temple at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine 

spread the dance throughout the country, 

praying for peace and bountiful harvests.
