旧精神科医療は思想警察なのか?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder and alcoholism

2025年03月13日 | Japanese Psychiatry hospital(日本の精神科医療)

We don't realize that there are many things in our daily lives that we cannot change on our own.

It's not good to make no effort at all, but on the other hand, the idea that "efforts will always be rewarded" is actually not good either.

Of course, between those who make an effort and those who don't, the person who makes an effort is more likely to get better results.

However, as anyone who has made a serious effort will know, efforts are rarely rewarded, and they will always experience "hitting a limit."

And many people hit the reality that they "cannot break through their limits" and give up, thinking "life is good enough."

If they tried a little harder they might get results, but because they "cannot make 10 or 20 years of continuous effort," they give up before the results appear.

I feel that people who think "I can do it with my own effort" and "I believe in myself" are often alcoholics or people with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

People with obsessive-compulsive disorder continue to perform compulsive acts to counteract feelings of anxiety.

After leaving the house, the thought "Oh, did I lock the door?" comes to mind, and you think, "If I don't lock it, a burglar will break in."

"If my family comes home before me and finds that the door is unlocked, I'll be blamed for forgetting to lock it."

You can't stop thinking this, and you can't stay still.

You then make a U-turn and go back home to make sure the door is locked.

It would be fine if you only had to check once, but if you do this several times a day, you may end up arriving at school just before the scheduled time, or you may end up being late again, or you may end up skipping school for fear of being late.

If you take the risk prediction behavior of "maybe" too far, you will fall into "overthinking" and will not be able to stop checking.

However, these extreme checking behaviors and compulsive behaviors do not continue all year round.

In particular, there are times when the checking behavior becomes stronger.

The reason for this is unknown in psychiatry.

However, from clinical observation, people who have such checking behavior and compulsions have stronger compulsions when they have strong anxiety or problems in their daily lives, such as with their family, work, or school.

However, the person themselves does not talk about the anxiety or problems they are facing, and they simply continue their compulsive behavior without recognizing that "I am anxious" or "I have a problem that seems unsolvable."

A female student who is a member of the brass band club was unable to stop washing her hands for a month, and began to be late to school, eventually becoming a school dropout and being hospitalized.

The attending doctor administered SSRIs and anti-anxiety drugs, but the side effects caused nausea and diarrhea, and she spent her time feeling drowsy, but the compulsive impulses did not change at all.

However, one day, her compulsive behavior decreased. In fact, the compulsive behavior began to decrease after the brass band club's competition ended.

In other words, he was turning a blind eye to the pressure and anxiety of the band competition, which was crushing him, by engaging in compulsive behavior. In this person's case, compulsive behavior occurs not only in relation to competitions, but also in relation to any anxiety or problem that he cannot solve.

The worst is when someone "comes to the competition almost without practice or preparation, and makes a mistake on the day of the competition."

However, even if they practice a lot, it is also a problem to "end up using compulsive urges to cover up the fear of failure or anxiety of not being able to meet expectations."

It's fine if the cause of these anxieties is something like "pressure from the band competition," but if it's "fear of death," "anxiety about the future," "anxiety about career paths," "anxiety about illness," or "dissatisfaction with parents," it will not be resolved in a short period of time.

When these anxieties suddenly cross his mind, the compulsive urges may flare up again in order to counteract the anxiety or fear.

Many people cover up by "turning a blind eye" or "overlooking."

However, people who try to negate their compulsive behavior may have a good personality, but because they cannot find an answer anywhere in the world, the compulsive behavior reignites.

If you engage in compulsive behavior to negate inner conflicts such as "anxiety" or "worry," you can stop engaging in compulsive behavior by learning "how to live without anxiety or worry," which is a form of treatment.

There is no way to completely cure compulsive behavior in psychiatric care or psychotherapy.

In fact, the solution to mental problems is found in the Bible.

Rapt Blog unravels the Bible in a way that is easy for modern people to understand.

The Bible is not just old tales or fairy tales, but contains everything from how humans can live happily to the laws of life.

Even if you think "I'm not very good at religion" or "I'm afraid of religion," all your problems can be solved by reading it not as a religion but with the mindset of "I want to know about God" or "I want to know about humans and myself."

I think that if you read the following article and put it into practice, you will be able to solve the mental problems that are unique to humans. Naturally, the compulsive behavior will disappear.

"Everyone in this world lives with anxiety of unknown causes. God will tell us the cause and teach us how to eliminate all anxiety and live happily (Testimony of Saki, one of the twelve disciples)
