1．イエスの降誕（2:1-20）
ルカの書き方の特徴は、イエスに起こった出来事を一般の歴史に結び付けて書くことです。1節、皇帝アウグストゥスの名が出てきます。アウグストゥスは、ローマ帝国初代の皇帝で、その在位は、BC27-AD14までです。また総督キリニウスの名も出てきますが、彼がシリアの総督であったのはBC12-10年とされています。となると、イエスが生まれたのは紀元元年以前であったのかもしれません。正確な時はいつなのか、よくわかっていませんが、この時イエスの家族は住民登録のために郷里へ戻らねばなりませんでした。通常住民登録は、現在の居住地でするようになっていましたが、ユダヤ人の場合は必ず自分の郷里に戻ってするようになっていたのです。

さて今日、イエスが生まれたとされる場所にも、羊飼いたちが野宿したと言われる場所にも、記念教会が建てられていて、多くの巡礼者が集まる場所となっています。かつて私はベツレヘムにある神学校に宿泊し、夜その町を歩いたことがありますが、その時の印象は、小高い丘が連なる、夜空が美しい町でした。しかし実際の12月のベツレヘムは、野宿をするには寒すぎる場所で、雪も降ります。イエスの降誕を祝うクリスマスは、12月ですが、本来は、違う時期であったのかもしれないと思った次第です。
ともあれ13節、御使いが天に現れ、大合唱が繰り広げられ、閑散として野にいた羊飼いたちに救い主の誕生が知らされるのです。しかしなぜ神は、世界の片隅で、名も無き羊飼いたちを相手にこんなことをされたのかと思います。しかも、彼らはユダヤでは、その仕事の性質上、人々から疎まれ、社会的にはのけ者にされているような者たちでした。実際彼らは裁判等、公の場で証言することも許されないような人々です。そのような人々に、世界の救い主の誕生が知らされるのです？なぜ？世界の救い主なのですから、首都エルサレムのど真ん中で、各国の要人を相手に、もっとど派手にご自分を現わしてもよかったのに、と思うところですね。しかし、神との出会いはいつもそのようなものなのかもしれません。それは小さな世界の片隅で起こるものです。しかしそれは、大きな人生の転機を与える厳粛なもので、遜る者にのみ訪れる機会です。
2．成長するイエス（2:21-52）
さてイエスが育ったナザレは、標高350mの丘陵にあって、周囲を山々に囲まれた一寒村でした。4世紀以降、エルサレム、ベツレヘムに並んでキリスト教の巡礼地とされるまでは、あまり人に知られることもなかった町です。そこから、イエスが家族と共にエルサレムへ出かけた二つの記録があります。一つは生後8日目の割礼を受けた後のこと。イエスの家族は律法の定めに従ってささげ物をささげましたが、それは貧しい者に定められた規定に沿ったものでした。

また、その場に居合わせたシメオンの賛歌と預言が記録されています。思い出すのは、ラフマニノフのヌンク・デミティスです。そして、エルサレムの聖墳墓教会を訪れた時のことです。ちょうど、心臓に剣を突き刺されているマリヤを形作った像がありました。シメオンの賛歌の一部は、イメージ化されて巡礼者を引き寄せました。ともあれ、イエスの降誕もその生活も社会の底辺を出発点とし、人々の心を惹きつけました。
また二つ目に12歳の時の都のぼりの出来事が記録されます。ユダヤの少年は13歳になるとバル・ミツバ（アラム語で「律法の子」）という厳かな儀式を受け、大人の仲間入りをし、会堂礼拝に加わることが許されました。1年早く都へ上ったのは、その予行練習のためだったと考えられています。ナザレからエルサレムまで、約100キロ、当時は歩いて約三日の道のりです。巡礼が終わると、人々はエルサレム北13キロのベエロテで宿泊し、旅程の無事を確認し、本格的に帰省を開始しました。両親がイエスの不在に気づいたのはおそらくその地点だったのでしょう。イエスと両親の会話が記録されますが、既にこの時、イエスは自らを「神の子」と自覚しておられました。神であられるのに完全な人となられて、社会の底辺から出発されることをよしとされた神の姿があります。神は自らの33年の歩みを、人類の救いのためと最初からしっかり受け止められておられたのです。神がもたらす私たちの救いは、付け焼刃ではない、ということです。では、今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。
Luke 2: The Reverence of Christ
1. the Nativity of Jesus (2:1-20)
A characteristic of Luke's writing style is that he connects the events that happened to Jesus with general history. Augustus was the first emperor of the Roman Empire, reigning from 27 BC to 14 AD. The name of the governor Quirinius is also mentioned, but he was governor of Syria from 12-10 BC. So, Jesus may have been born before AD. The exact date is not known, but at this time Jesus' family had to return to their hometown for registration. Registration was usually done at the current place of residence, but in the case of the Jews, it was always done back in their hometown.
Today, memorial churches have been built both in the place where Jesus was said to have been born and in the place where the shepherds are said to have camped, and they are a gathering place for many pilgrims. I once stayed at a seminary in Bethlehem and walked through the town at night, and my impression was of a town of small hills with a beautiful night sky. In reality, however, Bethlehem in December is too cold a place to stay in the field, and it snows. Christmas, the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus, is celebrated in December, but I wondered if it was originally celebrated at a different time of the year.
Anyway, in verse 13, an angel appears in heaven and a great chorus breaks out, announcing the birth of the Savior to the shepherds in the deserted field. But why, one wonders, would God do this to a group of nameless shepherds in a remote corner of the world? They were, by the nature of their work, shunned by the Jewish people and socially ostracized. In fact, they were not even allowed to testify in court or other public forums. And to such people, the birth of the Savior of the world is announced? Why? Since He is the Savior of the world, it would have been better if He had manifested Himself more spectacularly in the middle of Jerusalem, the capital of the world, in front of the dignitaries of the nations. However, perhaps encounters with God are always like that. It happens in a small corner of the world. But it is a solemn one that gives a great life turnaround, an opportunity that comes only to those who are irreverent.
2. growing up Jesus (2:21-52)
Nazareth, where Jesus grew up, was a poor village surrounded by mountains at an altitude of 350 m. It was a little-known town until the 4th century, when it became a Christian pilgrimage site along with Jerusalem and Bethlehem. From there, there are two accounts of Jesus' trip to Jerusalem with his family. The first is after his circumcision on the eighth day after his birth. Jesus' family offered an offering according to the Law, which was in accordance with the regulations for the poor.
Also recorded are the hymns and prophecies of Simeon who was present. I am reminded of Rachmaninoff's Nunc Demetis. Then there was the visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. There was just a statue in the form of Mary with a sword through her heart. Part of Simeon's hymn was imaged and drew pilgrims. At any rate, both the nativity of Jesus and his life took the bottom of society as their starting point and attracted people's hearts.
The second event is recorded at the age of 12, when he went up to the city. It is believed that the reason he went to the city a year early was to practice for the Bar Mitzvah. From Nazareth to Jerusalem is about 100 kilometers, about three days' walk in those days. After the pilgrimage, the people stayed overnight in Beeroth, 13 kilometers north of Jerusalem, to make sure their journey was safe, and then began their return home in earnest. It was probably at that point that the parents noticed Jesus' absence. The conversation between Jesus and his parents is recorded, and already at this time Jesus was aware that he was the "Son of God. This is the image of a God who was willing to start from the bottom of the social ladder, becoming fully God and fully man. From the very beginning, God was aware that His 33-year journey was for the salvation of humankind. God's salvation for us is not something that is just a temporary fix. I pray that today will be another good day.
