30章 自分を弁えて歩む
1．30、31章の位置づけ
30、31章は、ソロモンの箴言ではなく、マサの国の格言集です。箴言の流れを見ると、ソロモンの格言集は、大きく1-9章、10-22章16節、25-29章と３つあります。これにソロモンによるものではない格言集として22章17節から24章22節のアメンエムオペの格言集と、この30、31章のマサの国の格言集が加えられています。既に述べたように、ソロモンの格言集は、ソロモンの生活経験、職業経験から出てきている格言集で、国政のための知恵というべき主旨があるように思われます。しかし、この箴言の編者は、読者のバランスを考えたのかもしれません。最後に庶民的な、小さな家庭に生かされるべき知恵を、加えた感じがします。ただ、この格言を集めた、マサの国の人アグルがどのような人物なのかはわかりません。分かっているのは、彼が自分の無知ぶりと、悟りのなさを認めていることです（2節）。彼は、神がおられることを理解し、その存在を認めた時に、自分の愚かさや、小ささを思わされたのでしょう。確かに大自然の驚異の前に立つならば、人は自分のちっぽけな存在を思わずにはいられません。それと同じで、まことに偉大な神を認めるなら、その神の前に遜り、神の教えに心を留めて真っすぐな歩みをしたいと願うことでしょう。
2．アグルの格言集
そこで、謙虚なアグルの二つの願いについてみてまいりましょう。まず彼は、決して欺瞞や嘘偽りに陥らないように、と願っています（8節）。続いて、それらを引き起こしやすい、貧しさからも、豊かさからも自由になって、神に与えられたもので満足する心を持つように、と願っています。つまるところ、人間は、単なる動物的な生き物ではなく、霊的な存在、精神的な存在だ、と思わされるところです。
10節以降は、寄せ集めの格言集ですが、よく読むと、普段の生活に「あるある」と思うものばかりです。まず10節、神は弱い立場にある者の味方だと言います。そして11節以降、四つの受け入れがたい人々をあげています（11-14節）。それは残酷な心をもった子ども（11節）、全く尊敬できない教えたがりの人たち（12節）、上から目線の人々（13節）、人を旨く利用するだけの人（14節）です。受け入れがたい存在がいる、これが人生の現実というわけでしょう。
次にこの世には満たされないものがある現実を語ります。吸血鬼の蛭（15節）、人を飲み込む地獄、固く閉じた不妊の胎、乾燥しきった大地と消しがたい火（16節）。さらに説明できない人生の不思議（18-20節）。つまり、若い男女に恋心が芽生えるプロセス、これは説明できないもの、だというわけです。そして悪い事をしながら、それを罪と思わない売春婦。また非常に驚くようなことが四つ（21-23節）。奴隷が王となること。謀反を興して権力を握る者がいること。憎まれ女が結婚すること。女奴隷が女主人になることです。こうした、説明し難いもの、驚かせるようなものがあるのが人間社会だ、と言うわけです。
他方、この世界には、注目すべき知恵も見つけられると言います（24-31節）。夏に備える蟻、岩穴に隠れて身を守る岩だぬき、群れをなして飛来するいなご、王の宮殿に図々しく住み着くやもり。彼らは生きる術を知っている、と。しかし、人間はその真逆なのです。人間は怠け者で、自分の弱さをわかろうとせず、指導者が無くては行動できず、身を落ち着けるべき本当の場所も悟らない、というわけです。自然に学べと言わんばかりです。
33節、面白い対比が語呂合わせのように語られます。乳をかき回すと凝乳ができる。鼻をねじると血が出る。怒りをかき回すと争いが起こる（32-33節）。当たりまえのことをして災いを被る人間の愚かさ、そこに気づきましょう、ということでしょう。体に悪いとわかっていても、たばこやお酒が止められない、ではないのです。結末がわかっているなら、やはりそのことは意識すべきです。そして必要な対応をすることなのです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 30: Walking with Self-Discipline
1. the position of chapters 30 and 31
Chapters 30 and 31 are not Solomon's Proverbs, but a collection of proverbs from the land of Massah. Looking at the flow of Proverbs, there are three major collections of proverbs by Solomon: chapters 1-9, 10-22:16, and 25-29. To these are added the proverbs of Amenem-Opeh in chapters 22:17-24:22, which are not by Solomon, and the proverbs of the land of Massah in chapters 30 and 31. As already mentioned, the proverbs of Solomon are a collection of proverbs that come from Solomon's life and professional experience, and seem to have the main purpose of wisdom for national government. However, the editors of the Proverbs may have intended a balance of readers. Finally, I feel that he added wisdom that should be applied to common people and small families. However, we do not know what kind of person Agur, the man from the land of Massa, is who collected these proverbs. What we do know is that he admits his ignorance and lack of enlightenment (v. 2). He must have been reminded of his own foolishness and littleness when he realized that God is present and acknowledged His existence. Indeed, when one stands in the presence of the wonders of nature, one cannot help but think of one's own tiny existence. In the same way, if one acknowledges a truly great God, he or she will desire to walk uprightly in the presence of that God, keeping in mind God's teachings.
2. aphorisms of Agur
Let us now look at the two desires of the humble Agur. First, he wishes that we never fall into deception or falsehood (v. 8). Then he asks that we be free from poverty and riches, which tend to cause them, and that we have a heart that is content with what God has given us. In the end, we are reminded that we are not mere animal creatures, but spiritual and mental beings.
The rest of the book is a collection of aphorisms, but if you read them carefully, you will find that they are all applicable to our daily lives. First of all, verse 10 says that God is on the side of the weak. Then, from verse 11 onward, four unacceptable people are listed (vv. 11-14). These are children with cruel hearts (v.11), people who want to teach (v.12), who have no respect for others (v.12), people who look down on others (v.13), and people who only use others for their own good (v.14). There are those who are unacceptable, and this is the reality of life.
Next, we talk about the reality that there are things in this world that cannot be fulfilled. Vampire leeches (v. 15), hell that swallows people, a barren womb that is tightly closed, the parched earth and unquenchable fire (v. 16). And more unexplainable wonders of life (vv. 18-20). In other words, the process of falling in love between a young man and a young woman is something that cannot be explained. And then there is the prostitute who does evil and does not consider it a sin. There are also four very surprising things (vv. 21-23). A slave becomes king. A rebellious person rising to power. A hated woman marries. A female slave becoming a mistress. These are the things that are inexplicable and surprising in human society.
On the other hand, he says, we can also find remarkable wisdom in this world (vv. 24-31). Ants prepare for the summer, the mud peckers hide in rock holes for protection, locusts fly in flocks, and geckoes proudly reside in the king's palaces. They know how to survive. Humans, however, are just the opposite. They are lazy, they do not understand their own weakness, they cannot act without a leader, and they do not know where they really need to settle down. He wants us to learn from nature.
In verse 33, an interesting contrast is mentioned in the form of a wordplay. Stirring the milk produces curdled milk. Twisting the nose causes blood. Stirring up anger causes strife (vv. 32-33). This is the foolishness of human beings who do the obvious and suffer calamities. It is not that we cannot stop smoking or drinking even though we know it is bad for us. If you know the consequences, you should still be aware of them. And then take the necessary action. I wish you a good day.
