胃底腺粘膜にはヒスタミンをもつenterochromaffin-like (ECL) endocrine cell （腸クロム親和性細胞様細胞）が少数散在しています。主に胃幽門腺粘膜に分布するG細胞から分泌されるガストリンの高値が持続するとECL細胞が増殖します。
ECL細胞過形成の組織学的な様式として、赤い教科書（Diagnostic Pathology Gastrointestinal Greeson）をみると“Linear chains, small nodules, ribbons, and tubules in body/fundic mucosa”と記載されています。ちょうどよい写真がありました。
