“Yaeh!” is the greeting word used among bike riders in Japan.
When you pass another rider on the street, you make a peace sign
by your left hand and cry “Yaeh!”.
When was this custom started?
They said it started from the internet discussion board called
“2 channel” in 2003.
On the page for bike riders, one rider made a mistake and posted
“Yaeh!” instead of “Yeah!” and this word spread and many riders
began to greet each other in such manner on the road.
Now I’m considering riding a bike again for the first time in many years.
If I ride a bike, I will try to do “Yaeh!” greeting.
