遺伝子とガン治療

Scientists have developed a gene test which predicts
how well chemotherapy will work in cancer patients.

Starting with 829 genes in breast cancer cells,
the team whittled down the possibilities to six genes
which had an impact on whether a drug worked.

They then showed that these genes could be used to predict
the effectiveness of a drug called paclitaxel in patients.

To find which genes, if missing or faulty, could prevent
the drug from working, they deleted them one by one
from cancer cells in the laboratory.

They eventually highlighted the six genes which
if absent or not working prevent paclitaxel
from properly killing breast cancer cells.

人間の遺伝子を調べることにより、薬の効果が有る無しを
判定することが可能となった。

研究では、抗がん剤の効果について、乳がん患者の遺伝子を
一つ一つ検証し、ついに抗がん剤の使用に効果がある6つの
遺伝子を突き止めた。

これにより、抗がん剤が効かない遺伝子を持つ患者には、
無用な投与が避けられる上、他のガンに対しても、
同様の手法を用いて、抗がん剤の使用についての効果を
検証することで、効果的な治療の発展が期待できる。
