when the cops are talking to you in any country, they are your enemy・・・

I can see how someone coming from a more liberal country, where civil rights and liberties are actually guaranteed, would think differently.

Tourists better think twice before snapping pix of British bobbies

BY MEERA SELVA, AP | FEB 16, 2009

LONDON ― Tourists better think twice now before snapping pictures of the iconic British bobby.

A new British anti-terrorism law went into effect Monday that could effectively bar photographers from taking pictures of police or military personnel ― a move that prompted some 200 photographers to protest outside of Scotland Yard's headquarters

It is legal to take photographs in any public space, but photographers complain they have been harassed by police while taking photographs near airports, government buildings or train tracks under the Terrorism Act 2000, which gives police the right to stop, search and question anyone taking photographs.

Freelance photographer Jess Hurd said she was stopped by police when photographing a December wedding of Irish travelers. Part of the story was about how the travelers ― who often roam from site to site ― face harassment from police.

"The police stopped me and ordered me to stop filming them, saying I could be carrying out hostile reconnaissance," Hurd said. "I had no idea what they were talking about until I realized we were vaguely in the vicinity of City Airport."

Photographers who refuse to stop taking pictures after a warning face arrest, up to 10 years in prison or unspecified fines.

Two female protesters who challenged police officers for not displaying their badge numbers were bundled to the ground, arrested and held in prison for four days, according to an official complaint lodged today.

The incident was caught on camera, and footage shows officers standing on the women's feet and applying pressure to their necks immediately after the women attempted to photograph a fellow officer who had refused to give his badge number.

The images are likely to fuel concern over the policing of protests, which is already subject to a review by the national police inspectorate and two parliamentary inquiries after the G20 demonstrations and the death of Ian Tomlinson.

Val Swain, 43, and Emily Apple, 33, both mothers with young children, believe they were deliberately targeted for arrest at last year's climate camp demonstration in Kent because they campaign for Fit Watch, a protest group that opposes police surveillance at demonstrations.

Border search exception
The border search exception is a doctrine of United States criminal law that exempts searches of travelers and their property from the Fourth Amendment warrant requirement.
The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a division of the United States Department of Homeland Security, is permitted to search travelers and their belongings at the American border without probable cause or a warrant.

Cops are trained to lie and trick you into getting arrested

Complaints about G8 summit security

no you aren't. For the frickin hundred millionth time, THERE IS NO LAW IN GERMANY WHICH REQUIRES YOU TO CARRY A FORM OF ID ON YOU! EVEN FOREIGNERS!

I'd appreciate it if you explained this to the local police...they love to harrass tourists, then the tourists complain to me, I'm sick of hearing it. Also, every time the police stop me (rarely, maybe twice a year...I'm a tour guide, so I'm always around the areas they'd check)...they bitch me out for only having a german driver's license as the only ID they recognize, they want my passport. They let me go with a 5-minute lecture.

I also carry an american license on me, but they want a passport.
