アル・ファタハ（PLO最大の政治組織）の軍事組織の幹部と他の2人が21日、議長府のあるラマッラの路上で、イスラエル特殊部隊によって暗殺されました。暗殺された幹部はモハメッド・ガッサンで、アル・アクサ旅団の指導者の一人です。
特殊部隊は、議長府から出てきた3人が乗る車を追跡した後、射殺した模様です。アラブメディアによれば、何の抵抗もない3人を射殺したとしています。また、イスラエルのメディアも暗殺は認めていますが、3人から反撃があり、特殊部隊の一人が負傷したと報じています。
そのやり方はいずれにしても、イスラエルは一体何を考えているのでしょうか。パウエル国務長官が、自らの花道を飾らんものと現地入りしている中をこのような蛮行に及ぶのですからその神経が分かりません。個人的にパウエル氏の和平調停を評価しているわけではありませんが、それにしてもシャロン政権が和平の芽を全てつぶそうとしているようにしか見えません。
ラマッラ市長のイッサ氏は、「イスラエルは平和を口にするが、やる事は正反対だ」と怒りを露わにしています。

One of the Israelis was lightly wounded when he was shot in the leg.
The force entered the town to arrest Mohammed Rassan Sheikh, a member of Fatah's military wing who had hid out in Yasser Arafat's Muqata compound in Ramallah along with dozens of other militants until the Palestinian leader's recent death.
One Israeli military official said the incident began when soldiers approached the car where the militant they wanted to arrest was sitting along with two other people.
"The people in the car realised they had been identified. They got out of the car and fired at the forces. From the shooting one of the soldiers was wounded. The forces returned fire and hit all three," the official said.
The soldier was hit in the leg, sustaining light injuries and was taken to a Jerusalem hospital for treatment.
Sheikh was killed in the ensuing gunbattle, as were two other Palestinian men who were with him. Military sources said they too were Fatah members, though no weapons were found on their bodies
