Hi there!
How are you doing today?
The other day I wrote here about the difficulties to me in the pandemic.
Since I wrote those articles, I've been still researching about things to get an idea how we can go to Japan and do IVF there in the pandemic.
There are briefly 2 reasons why it's become so difficult for us personally to go to Japan in the pandemic. One is physically very limited like you can't use public transportation for 2 weeks after you enter Japan. And the other one is extra financial requirement which you usually don't need but you do in the pandemic.
After I wrote the 2 articles above, I got to know 2 more new things which made me feel, "Oh well, it's pretty much impossible to go to Japan now."
The first thing is that every foreigner entering Japan needs a visa including people from countries which are usually exempted from getting visas for a stay within 90days .
I happened to find this information through reading other blogs and got very surprised. To make sure that such an information was correct or not, I emailed and asked to the consulate of Japan in Chicago, and then their answer was, "Yes, the information is correct and every foreigner entering Japan now is required to have a visa."
Still, if my understanding is right, the citizens of the exempted countries can apply for a visa for a short stay with no fee.
Usually, Andy doesn't need a visa to enter Japan, which means that we don't have to worry about any paper works or a timing to book flight tickets. Though, if we need to get Andy a visa, I have to collect all the required documents including one from Japan as well and besides that, they don't guarantee if or when they would issue the visa, which means that we have to wait and see to get flight tickets until the last minute. Yeah, it's not fun and easy.
The other thing that I recently learned was that you need to have a document to prove that your COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before entering Japan was negative. Just same as that, you also need to take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours before you come back to the US and needless to say, it has to be negative.
When I read the information, I simply and honestly thought, "That sounds like a lot of work." but I tried to collect more specific information, "If I'll take a test to get the certificate, how much will it cost and where can I do it?"
Then, I found a certain number of services to do the test and issue the paper signed by a doctor. You can either do everything remotely, which you can get a kit of the test and send it back via mail, or you can also walk in a clinic and do the test there too. So, it's still kind of a lot of work, but seemed relatively easy.
Though, what surprised me most was the cost.
Hit-chan
The cheapest price that I could find was about $200!
Children over 2 years old also need the certificate, so if we'd do it, it'll cost $600 for 3 of us! That's really expensive, isn't it?
At the point when I was writing the articles above, I'd already thought, "It's really hard for us to go to Japan in this situation." but when I got to know about the 2 more things, "It's pretty much impossible to go to Japan until the pandemic is over." I reached the opinion.
In our case, besides that we want to spend a fun time with our family and friends in Japan, we want to do another IVF with our frozen embryos which have been stored at the clinic there.
According to the best option to do an IVF, we definitely should do that as soon as possible because age is a big matter in the treatment. Though, due to the pandemic, we haven't been able to make any decisions for the ideal idea to do the treatment in Japan, and Andy and I started talking, "If the pandemic will last longer, we should give up going to Japan and start thinking about doing it from scratch in MN."
Even if we only focus on the treatment and go to Japan now, we can't go see whoever we want to see, eat wherever we want to eat or visit wherever we want to go anyways, which means we can't do even the half of what we want to do there. That doesn't seem worth for us going there so much after all.
In general, if you see things only from one side and things don't go well, you might think, "Why things go so wrong??!!" or something, but I personally tend to think, "Oh well, everything isn't going smoothly even if I really want to do this. So, that probably means either now isn't the best timing or the option isn't the best way."
Anyways, all m wishing now is that the pandemic will end the soonest, people who're supposed to be survived will be saved appropriately, and everybody can go see whoever they want to see anytime.
