A new year, a new crease

Happy New Year! (Though it's kinda late....) But this is the first leaf of the year, so I feel like starting out properly here. So let me say, “Please continue to visit ‘A Tree of Words’ this year, and may God bless you!” Well, it's been a while. Some people have asked me, “So what's up with your blog these days?” Sorry if you have been concerned, but I've been fine. It's not like something happened.... Just the same-ol' the-end-of-the-semester rush and the break-lag stuff. It's not that I have nothing to write about...it's rather that I have too much. I'm gonna put them out little by little, I guess.

Okay, since it's the beginning of the new year, let me share my New Year’s Resolution! (Please don't tell me, “It's too late for that!”) (Or don't ask me, “What happened to the last year’s resolution?”<- which was to stop procrastinating...) This year, I'm going to make a new crease. What do I mean by a “new crease?” Well. Earlier this month, I was talking with someone about art and all, and I said, “Isn't origami like life?” (I like finding metaphors about life, you see.)

(Um, for my non-Japanese readers, I should explain what origami is first. It is a Japanese paper craft, creating various things from a simple boat to a complicated panda bear by only folding a square sheet of paper. No cutting, no gluing, just simply folding. It can be complicated though. If you want to know more, click here.)

When you make an origami craft, there are times you have to open and refold the paper. But you refold it in a different way using the same creases. If you've done the earlier folding, the next step will be made easy. If you try to skip the first part, it would be almost impossible to do it with a crisp, unfolded paper. So it is with life. When you have to redo something, it's feels as though you got “Three backward steps” or “Back to start” on snakes and ladders, but life is more like making origami, I think. It may seem like a backward step, but what you've done in the past is not in vain, instead, it is used to proceed to the next level.

After that talk, I came to a realization; Last year was like unfolding the paper, looking back at old creases, refolding and reforming the origami. But this year is all about making new creases. (Yeah!) So I must follow divine Artist's direction, folding my life faithfully. Even if I mess up in the process, He will use my mistake and make it meaningful, I believe.
