Apple is one of the coolest brands on the planet but it is currently under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
A spate of suicides at one of its main suppliers, Foxconn, has led to allegations of labour rights abuses in its Chinese factories.
"News of the spate of suicides [at the] Foxconn [plants] in 2010 alarmed me greatly and I wondered whether the harsh management methodology drove workers to despair.
As consumers we should ask ourselves how certain products are made .... Corporate social responsibility is always window-dressing measures without enforcement mechanisms and remedies for workers. So the only way to stop labour rights violations is through campaigning. We hope that more consumers can pressure Apple and Foxconn."

ニューヨークでは、モロッコ人の日常生活が警察によって秘密裏に監視されていることが暴露された、と。
これは、先日日本でも、警察の秘密文書がネットで流れてイスラム教徒について、似たようなことが日本でも行われていたのではないか、といわれているわけですね。
NYのケースではCIAもからんでいるということで、全くの推測で、根拠はないですけど、日米関係のありかたを考えると、米国から、日本でもやるように、”要請”というか、”助言”というか、そんなものがあったのかな、と不図思います。
だから、日本が悪くないというつもりはない、一般市民をなんの根拠・権限もなく、監視するのは違法であり、間違っている。

Police forces with some of the worst records of targeting black people have decided to stop recording the ethnicity of the people their officers stop and ask to account for their movements, the Guardian has learned.
Five out of the 10 forces most likely to use stop-and-account powers disproportionately against black people – West Midlands, Avon and Somerset, Thames Valley, Sussex and Hertfordshire – have halted recording the race of people they have stopped. They have used a government change in the rules introduced in March, which was aimed at cutting bureaucracy.
In total, 21 out of 43 forces in England and Wales will stop recording details, according to responses to requests under the Freedom of Information Act.

職務質問するさい、相手の人種も記録する制度があったそうな。これは不当なレイシャルプロファイリングを抑止する作用があると考えられていたのであろう。しかし、レイシャルプロファイリングやっていそうな警察署ほど、この制度を取りやめにしている、と。

Louisiana saw an advert for cleaning and waitressing jobs in the UK, and travelled to England with a man from the employment agency.
"I had my own passport. But when we arrived he took my passport away and told me I had to work as a prostitute.
"He said I owed him money for the travel and I would pay him back this way. I was shocked. I would never have chosen this. I did not know what to do. I don't feel able to talk properly about what happened to me after that."

While the US boycotts the UN Durban 3 conference on combating racism, racism and oppression are still deeply entrenched in America. Slavery and segregation maybe a thing of the past, but African Americans are still no where near achieving equality.
A big fat “no” to an anti-racism meet-up at the UN – from the US and some of its friends with benefits.
“They want to protect each other. The United States because of its original sin of genocide against Native Americans and slavery, and the Europeans because of their ongoing neo-colonial ties to Africa and Asia,” said Glen Ford of the Black Agenda Report.
人種差別撤廃を唱えるダーバン会議をアメリカはボイコットするようだが、アメリカも今でも人種差別はあらゆる分野でのこっており、アメリカはアメリカインディアンに対するジェノサイドや奴隷制度、そして、欧州人は進行中のアフリカ・アジアにネオ植民地主義があり、それに触れられたくないから欧米はボイコットで協調しているんじゃないか、と。
ロシアトゥデイらしいといえば、らしい。
