マルコの福音書14章 受難物語
1．イエスの受難前夜の出来事（14:1-9）
14章は、十字架前夜、最後の晩餐とゲッセマネの園での出来事、そして逮捕と裁判が記録されています。いわゆるイエスの受難物語と呼ばれる部分です。今年の受難節（2024年）は、既に終わってしまいましたが、ちょうどこの受難節に当たる時期、フィリピンを旅したことがあります。フィリピンはカトリックが主流ですが、カトリック教会を訪問しましたら、聖像という聖像すべてに白いシーツをかけていたのが印象的でした。その白いシーツは、イエスの復活を祝う、イースターの日に一斉に取り除くのだそうです。また、各教会で、大音響で、ルカの福音書が朗読されていました。公園では、何やら、イエスの十字架の苦しみを覚えるために、上半身裸になって、自分の体に鞭打つ男たちも。一種の風物詩らしいですが、なるほど、イエス受難の時を痛み悲しみ、悔い改めをもって、厳粛に過ごし、キリストの復活を待ち望む生活リズムがあるのだなあと感じました。残念ながら日本にはそれがありません。日本は、やはり、宣教師の目から見れば、宣教の遅れた国、異教徒の国なのでしょう。
閑話休題、イエスが十字架にかかられる前の日の夜のこと、石膏のつぼを抱えた一人の女性がイエスに近づいてきました。そのつぼには、ナルド、つまりインド、ヒマラヤ産の植物の根茎から採れた高価な香油が入っていました。それは当時、家庭の芳香剤、女性が使う香水、さらには、宗教的な礼拝儀式や死体を葬る時の防臭剤としても、様々な用途で使われていたものです。また客人が家に到着して、食事の席に着く際にも、この香油を数滴振りかける習慣もありました。ところが、この女性は、イエスに近づくや否や、数滴どころか、壺を割って、その中身を全部イエスに注いでしまったのです。その値打ちは300デナリ、つまり当時の日当は１デナリでしたから、約一年分の収入に相当するもの。集まった人々は、なんてことをする、もったいないと考えましたが、イエスは、このような行動を取った女の心に目を向けるのです。そこには、この女性のイエスに対する真実な愛と献身があったのでした。確かに愛は偉大な浪費を可能にするものです。
2．弟子の裏切り（14:10-31）
次にユダを始めとする弟子の裏切りのエピソードが続きます。それらは、この女性の愛とは対照的で、自己愛に満ちた残念なエピソードです。今が愛と献身を示す時と考えた女性と、今こそ裏切りのチャンスであると考えたユダ。対照的です。自分の立ち位置はどこであったであろうか、と考えさせられます。間違っても、ナルドの香油を注いだ女ではないだろうなとも思います。残念ですが。多くの人は、29節、口先だけのペテロかな、と思うこともあるでしょう。深いと思ったはずの関係が、意外と表面的なものに過ぎないってことは、世の中ではいくらでもあるものです。
3．イエスの逮捕（14:32-72）
最後にマルコは、ゲッセマネの園でのイエスの苦しみの祈りとイエスの逮捕について語ります。彼らはイエスに祈るように求められながらも、心を一つにして祈ることができませんでした。残念なことに、イエスと生死を共にする覚悟を示したペテロも、同じでした。居眠りをこいていたのです。しかし、不思議なものです。イスラエルのツアーでは、イエスがもだえながら祈ったとされる場所と、ペテロが居眠りをこいてしまったという場所に必ず行くのです。そして、イエスがもだえながら祈ったとされる場所では、何か、主を思い祈る心が湧いてくる。しかしペテロが居眠りをこいてしまったという場所では、ここがそうなのか、と冷めた目で見てしまう、そんな自分に気づいてびっくりしました（笑）。
ともあれ、時はやって来ました。逮捕されるイエスを守ろうとしてペテロは、「剣」を取り上げました。そしてしまいには尻尾を蒔いて逃げてしまいました。他方、イエス自身は、大祭司の前に引きずり出されても、全く動じず、神の子か悪魔か、狂人かという問いについて、堂々と、ご自分が神の子であると認めるのです。ここにも対照的な姿があります。イエス。イエスに対する信仰を持つなら、語るべき時に語り、立つべき時には堂々と立つ、口先だけではないまことの信仰を持ちたいものです。では今日もよい一日であるように祈ります。
Mark 14: The Passion Narrative
1. the events on the eve of Jesus' Passion (14:1-9)
Chapter 14 records the events on the eve of the crucifixion, the Last Supper and in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the arrest and trial. This is the part of the so-called Passion Narrative of Jesus. Although this year's Passion Passion Seder (2024) is already over, I have traveled to the Philippines during the period that falls exactly on this Passion Seder. The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country, and when I visited a Catholic church, I was impressed by the white sheets covering all the holy statues. The white sheets are removed all together on Easter, the day to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Also, the Gospel of Luke was being read loudly in each church. In the park, some men stripped naked and whipped themselves to remember the suffering of Jesus' crucifixion. It seems to be a kind of custom, but I felt that there is a rhythm of life in which people solemnly spend the time of Jesus' Passion with pain, sorrow, and repentance, and await the resurrection of Christ. Unfortunately, Japan does not have such a rhythm. From the missionary's point of view, Japan must be a country where missionary work is lagging behind, a country of pagans.
On the night before Jesus was crucified, a woman approached him carrying a plaster jar. The jar contained expensive perfumed oil from the rhizome of nard, a plant from the Indian Himalayas. It was used in those days for a variety of purposes: as an air freshener for the home, as a perfume for women, and even as a deodorant for religious worship rites and for burying corpses. It was also customary to sprinkle a few drops of this perfumed oil on guests when they arrived at the house and sat down to eat. However, as soon as this woman approached Jesus, she broke the jar and poured all of its contents on him, not just a few drops. The value of the jar was 300 denarii, which was equivalent to about one year's income, since the daily wage at that time was one denarii. The people gathered around thought what a waste, but Jesus turned to the heart of the woman who had done this. There was the woman's true love and devotion to Jesus. Indeed, love is what makes great waste possible.
2. betrayal of the disciples (14:10-31)
Next follows episodes of betrayal by Judas and other disciples. They are disappointing episodes of self-love, in contrast to the love of this woman. The woman who thought that now was the time to show her love and devotion, and Judas who thought that now was the time to betray her. It is a stark contrast. It makes one wonder where one's position would have been. I also wonder if I am not the woman who anointed Nardo with the perfume. It is unfortunate. Many may wonder, verse 29, if it is Peter who is all talk. There are plenty of times in the world when a relationship that we thought was deep turns out to be surprisingly superficial.
3. the arrest of Jesus (14:32-72)
Finally, Mark tells of Jesus' agonizing prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and His arrest. They were asked to pray to Jesus, but they could not pray with one heart. Unfortunately, the same was true for Peter, who had expressed his readiness to live and die with Jesus. He was dozing off. But it is a strange thing. On our tours of Israel, we always go to the place where Jesus is said to have prayed in agony and the place where Peter dozed off. And in the place where Jesus is said to have prayed while struggling, I feel something in my heart to pray and think of the Lord. But in the place where Peter dozed off, I was surprised to find myself looking at the place with cold eyes, wondering if this was the same place (laugh).
Anyway, the time had come. In an attempt to protect Jesus from arrest, Peter took away the "sword. And finally, he sowed his tail and ran away. On the other hand, Jesus himself, when dragged before the high priest, was completely unfazed, and when asked if he was the Son of God, the devil, or a madman, he proudly admitted that he was the Son of God. Here is another contrasting figure. Jesus. If we have faith in Jesus, we should speak when we should speak, stand up when we should stand up, and have true faith, not just talk.
