Studying

2010-09-18 | Most important- Education
I believe learning doesnt have an end.
you must study all the time in order to keep your memory, and gain knowledge!!
not only that, when you keep studying on daily basis- studying actually gets easier, and just becomes a routine!!

studying languages is also really important once you learned the language, it is sooooooo easy to forget it if you dont use it.
so the number of hours you are in that enviroment (reading, wrting or communicating) will effect the skills- even if you dont use it daily, if you keep practicing, new knowldge can be dtored in ur brain fast :))))

recently, to train my brain-... i started following this site

http://www.esl-lab.com/adsense/adsenserd1.htm

this is free, you can hear the sample of short stories (like 3- 5 min) about on different categories and answer some questions to make sure you got the idea.
its quick and easy- the whole things is like 10min. long including checking the ansers- imagine how cool it would be to do a brain excercise just 10 min. a day and it helps you to remember better ??

im a blood type B, which is known as "easy to get bored on one thing" but i will try my best to stick with this idea for a while.
when i finish all the tasks, hopefully i get to go to the "upper" level!!

They did their homework!!!!!!!!!! great job kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we learned "colors" today- and the magic word

Please

I believe "please" and "thank you"
is really important for not only kids, but for anyone to know, and use!!
i guess my older student Y, (8, girl) feels funny when she says "thank you" in english, but she feels right when she says "ありがとう” arigato (thank you in jp) i told her, it really makes me feel happy, if you said thank you to me in enlish, because its an english class, and she understood.

I have a Piano, two Guitars, an ukulele, a Shamisen (noone knows how to play) so when the kids come here, they always wanna play those.
but since i need to teach them the least manners and diciplines as far as playing an instruments ( like putting them back in a place, or dont mess with the tuning, or dont treat instruments like they are toys... and so on)
i had the kids sit in front of me, and we had a little "meeting" and discused that. I told them, they can play the instruments whenever they want to if they asked me ... please! so they said "guitar please" or "piano please" and started playing.

As far as the color games, they did well- but hey werent as intrested as the first time!! so i should come up with more fun game for them next time, but today they heard a lot of colors in english, and they did repetitions very well!!

out main event in our class today was

COOKING

so i explained what we will do, (almost all in japanese, then some in english since they were getting frustrated with me speaking english the whole time ;;)

They measured the "hotcake mix", cracked an egg, so and so, they were so interested!!

be careful, dont spill!!

Its always good to taste!!

ah!! you got me!!

its... abit burnt, but oh well! haha tasted so good!!

4:00-5:30 (including snack)

letter recognition- "listen" to the sound of an alphabet and complete the puzzle!!
It is her first time to learn ABCs on that day, she did so good!!!

7 years old, Yaya

6 year old, Taz
he loves numbers!!! He is matching the numbers and colors!!
later on we played "card janken" which is when we put out a card form your hand, and the person with the biggest number wins, and whoever has the most card will be the winner-!! (but since little brother is fat better at this game than sister, Yaya told me " i dont wanna do this anymore, its boring!" and got mad. haha, so i cleaned everything up. and let a brother do some number game on the computer, and let yaya play the piano. i taught her the chord C today :)

Materials for the day!!
we played with baloons also, and they enjoyed writing theletters on their "own" board :)
Homework folder is for them to file worksheets done in class and letters to parents, and some worksheet to take home :)

The book "yoko"

The main charactor is called YOKO from Japan, her mom fixed "sushi " for fher lunch one day. she was so happy and excited to bring it to school/それを持って大喜びで学校に行った彼女。 but at lunch time all her class, ates laughed at her for bringing something stranger. Her teacher told her nicely that everyone would forget about it by the time they have snack. bu they they made fun of her even more when yoko took out her "red bean ice cream" for snack. Seeing yoko's sad face the teacher suggests that they will have an international food festival at school. ever since the festival was held, everyone got interested in her food, and she couldenjoyed swpping food with friends :)そしてクラスで「インターナショナル・フード・フェスティバル」を開催することに。

Your dream house!

2010-07-30 | Most important- Education
another activity today given by DeRoMaN was

"design your dream house!"

It was so interesting!!!!!!
First we talked about houses, apartments, boat house, etc...
and asked the kids "what kind of house DO you live in?"
kids were so cute, they were asking each other which floor of the tall apartment they live, and it was great that we could imcorporate(?) the
"high" and "low" from the previous lesson!!!!

then we discussed what kind house would be NICE to live in, and we started to design our DREAM house!!

some of them designed...
☆ a cat house -eyes are windows and mouth is a door!
☆ a maze house- there are lots of tricks and difficulties the people have to pass to get to each room
☆ a cool boat house on the water
☆ a house of 4 seasons, and on the roof there are symbols for each seasons which are snow, cherry blossoms, fallen leaves and ocean water! (so creative)
☆ a house which has a loooong slide- so you dont have to walk!

it was great, the kids imagination always surprises me.
i think some of the designs they did today... they might come true in the future-!
especially the loooong slide one, its WOULD be pretty useful actually.

Math activity [ high and low]

2010-07-30 | Most important- Education

H for high and L for low
みんなで体を動かして、go higher, higher, higher, go lower, lower, lower で

My lesson for the day was a "math" acitivity, we learned high and low through actions, numbers, and worksheets!!!!

the kids did an excellent job on every activity, since its been more than a week and they are getting used to the lesson. sometimes i was a bit sad i felt maybe i was too bring to the kids even when i gave some activity, they wanted to play play and play, (which i know it is totally normal for the children) but since i really love teaching, when the teaching doesnt go well i feel very sad or not good enough.....
but today was so good, i loooooooooove you, kids! hehehehe

guessing the number game was really fun, even there are different english levels in the classroom, numbers are very farmilier to everyone! so it was great!!
even the 5 year old participated, and he had fun!!! so nice!

after that we did a worksheets and they compared two numbers
1 4
10 7
5 5

if its the same, you will write equal,
if its lower, you will write <
if its higher, you will write >

everyone did GREAT!!!!!!

2010-07-27 | Most important- Education
Casework is one method for solving a problem regarding to children with abuse, parents divorce, and so on. the problem might not dissapear 100%, but the purpose of it is to support the self help of a client.

Here are the process of casework

intervention...actual conduct of support

Intake... first contact with a client.
* can a client and worker build a le pole (trust)?

Accessment...Finding out what the problems are, and what needs to be done.
* kids may be nervous to tell the truth, or what they tell the worker might be different from what is actually happening.

planning...decide the supporting method after finding out what the problems are.

direct/indirect intervention

monitoring/ evaluation... checking to see if the supporting process is working toward a goal. if not, reacess and replan for another support.

finish... the best form to end it is to solve a child's problem with a reflection of his hope.
