The Sound of Zen

The Sound of Zen
What is the silence of Zen ?
・・・・・Listen to the silence.

I went to a zen -lecture that was held at Ta-ka-ha-shi culture hall yesterday afternoon.

Following to the opening speech, there was a lecture by a writer; Ki-yo-shi Shi-ge-ma-tsu who got 124th Na-o-ki Prize in 2001.
The name of his work is 'Vitamin F'.

In his lecture titled 'The power of words', he emphasized the meaning of life.
He said that life contains both energetic life and death and that we should learn and teach about death more especially to the children and the youth.

Next he told about the importance of priests who know more about death and said that priests should be the spiritual leader of the community and have good connection with  common people more.

Last he told about the importance of face to face-communication using the words.

Last we had a main event of this meeting ; ZA-ZE-N on the chair for about thirty minutes.
A priest facing to us sat on the stage, and three priests and three person sat there facing to the wall with zen stile.

The silence was magnificent and so beautiful !

It was my first experience and sitting on the chair silently felt very long time.

At a zen temple

I happened to see these chrysanthemums called 'Ke-n-ga-i tsu-ku-ri'
at a zen temple.
The priest of the temple said they were presented by one of the parishioners.
It's hard to grow chrysanthemum like this shape.

They are wonderful !

Taking a walk, I see the hills rich in color.
The leaves of the trees are turning to red or yellow day by day.
I see these red leaves at the precincts of a temple named 'O-da-i-sh-i sa-ma' and yellow leaves on the side of a footpath.

Astringent persimmon

Persimmon trees have many fruits this year.
I eat them every day.
But this astringent persimmon is bitter, so we are trying to make dried persimmon.
We peeled off the skin of this fruit and hang them under the eaves.
Dried persimmon is very delicious, so I'm looking forward to eating them.

Saffron crocus

Do you know the words 'digital native' ?
I know the words 'digital divide' but I hadn't known the words 'digital native' till I watch a NHK  T.V. program 'Digital native~young people who will change the next generation~' last night.
The meaning of this words is the younger generation who take for granted the use of the Internet.
They don't care about whether they are in the world of virtual or real.
Besides they don't care about their carrier either.
Their way of life and thinking is a little different from the elder generation.
They are using the Internet in various activities.
In the world of  the Internet, the world is one.
I wish they make a wonderful society by the good use of  Internet.

Dogwood

The leaves of Dodwood in my yard are turning red and I also see red seeds on the twigs.
Some birds come to eat them and drop excrement on our car near the carport.

And I see this Pyracantha;( Fire thorn) the other day while I was taking a walk.
I was amazed to see these too many seeds on the tree.
They say this seed is poisonous.

As for chrysanthemum in Japan, white ones and yellow ones are popular.
White ones look so clean and pure.
They reminded me of a famous song in the movie of 'Sound of music'; Edelweiss.

This light wine- red flower is also so nice.

It's the most comfortable season of the year in Japan now.
But I have troubles of sneezing, running at the nose for a few days.
And  the condition of my eyes  aren't good.
Perhaps it's because of  hay fever.
As a result, I am a woman with a mask on my nose and mouth now.

This light pink flower is not so attractive, but I like this color too.

By the way, there was a surprise yesterday.
I saw my husband's name on the column of A-sa-hi Shi-n-bu-n yesterday.
My husband likes a few kinds of quiz that is on this newspaper on every Saturday .
After solving the problems of the quiz, he sends the answer using an e-mail every week.
At last he had done !
He got a book a book token of 10,000 yen.
I was surprised very much because the winning probability was very low.
Anyway he was lucky !
