Today is 'the beginning of midwinter';(ka-n-no-i-ri).

'Ka-n' is from today till the day before the calendrical beginning of spring;(se-tsu-bu-n).

The first snow of the season

I woke up to find a silver world this morning!!

On the last day of the year, the first snow of the season fell.
I was surprised a lot as it seldom snows in this area.

The winter solstice; (to-u-ji)

Today is the winter solstice;(to-u-ji).

As you know the period of the daytime is the shortest and the night longest.

We have a custom of eating pumpkin and taking a hot citron bath today in Japan.
Then we won't have a cold and be healthy.

In ancient times it was said today was the beginning of the year.
It may be reasonable as the day becomes longer and longer from tomorrow!

This morning, the sky wasn't clear because of thphoon no.27 which brought heavy rain and a litle wind last night.

But in the afternoon, it became fine and warm.

It was cold a little this morning.

In Tokyo area, it is said to have blown 'a nipping winter wind no.1';(ko-ga-ra-shi 1 go-u) early this morning.
It is the beginning of winter!

Pink sky

On the evening of Actober 12, the cloud became pink for only a short while.

The color of the sky were changing every moment and this pink color faded away in a second.
