感謝会 Thanks Party

昨夜はテクニカルクラスのシェアードご夫妻をお招きして、町の居酒屋でささやかなパーティーを開きました
テクニカルクラスの生徒１２名とデイヴィッド、フェイのお二人で「こすも」という名前の居酒屋の座敷が会場です
この「こすも」という名前について私はてっきり宇宙という意味の「コスモ」だと思っていましたが、実は違って駒ヶ根市の近くの飯島という地区にある「越百山」と書いて「こすもやま」と読む山の名前からとったそうです
シェアード夫妻の馴れ初めをうかがったところ、彼らは大学の同級生でデイヴィッドが２２歳、フェイが２１歳のときに結婚したそうです
当時デイヴィッドは授業にあまり出席せず、フェイにノートを見せてもらって、期末試験を受け、何故かデイヴィッドのほうが点数が良かったなどという話もお聞きしました
テクニカルクラスは私にとって実に有用で、応募のときの希望トレーニング内容にも書いていたものです
任地でおそらくすることになるプレゼンテーションに自信をもてるようになりました

Last night, we technical classmates invited Mr. and Mrs. Sheard to our small party.
It was the thanks party for our teachers of the technical classes which were finished last week.
The venue was the small izakaya which name was ‘KOSUMO’.
I believed that the meaning of KOSUMO was the ‘Cosmo’.
But I had noticed by the owner, the name ‘KOSUMO’ was the name of the mountain which was located in Iijima area near Komagane city.
We asked David about the beginning of love with Fay and he told us.
They got married when he was 22 and she was 21 years old.
They were the classmates and sometimes David borrowed the notebook from Fay before the test because he sometimes didn't attend the class.
However David always got higher mark than Fay’s.
The study of the technical class will be very useful for my presentation or training course which I am expected to do at the host country.
I wrote the request for the presentation training on the application of senior volunteer.
Now I am much more confident than before.

千畳敷 Ｓｅｎｊｏｕｊｉｋｉ

駒ヶ根生活もあと残り２週間を切って、訓練生のみなさん思い出作りに励んでいるようです
私も日曜日はソロモン組のみなさんと宝剣岳のカールに行ってきました
麓の駒ヶ根市からバスまたはタクシーで中腹のしらび平まで行き、そこから標高2612ｍのカールまでケーブルカーで一気に登ります
宝剣岳は約2ｋｍ東にある駒ケ岳に尾根で続く山で標高2931ｍの山です
別名千畳敷というこのカールは長さ約800ｍ、幅約400ｍのもので、この季節でも中央部から下にかけてスキーが楽しめるようにロープトウが、設置されています
ここでカールに関する薀蓄をひとつ
カールとは、冬に雪がたくさん積もる3000ｍ級以上の山で、南向き斜面に日が当たって、その雪解けで山肌が侵食されてできる、ゆったりとした氷河地形のことです
有名なところではスイスのマッタホルンや、国内では南アルプス仙丈ケ岳などがあります
また駒ケ岳という名前も国内には数多くあり、これはその地形から山頂に至るまでに馬の背と呼ばれる尾根が付属していることからこの名前がついたようです
中央アルプスの駒ケ岳は、宝剣岳との間にある中岳を馬の背に見立てて、駒ケ岳が馬の頭に相当すると思われます

Less than two weeks of KTC life remains and all trainees are paying attention to not only studying hard but also making memories.
On Sunday I went to the curl of Houken-dake with the Solomon group.
Getting a taxi from Komagane city at the foot of the mountain, we arrived at Shirabi-dai half way up.
We got a cable-car there and climbed to the curl without stopping.
The curl is located on the south face just below the top of Hoken-dake at 2612m altitude.
It is called Senjoujiki, and is about 800m in length and about 400m in width and there is a rope-toe on it for the skiers.
The name “curl” means a kind of geographical feature which is in the high mountains such as over 3000m, a lot of snow accumulated at the top melts and erodes the southern slope.
So the curl in the northern hemisphere always faces to the south.
The most famous one is the Matter-horn in Switzerland and Senjougatake in Japan.
The name “Komagatake” is often used for the mountains in Japan which look like a horse and are usually connected to the ridges, and look like a horseback.
In this case, probably “Komagatake” is the head and “Nakadake is the horse’s back.
