湯麺 Tang-mien

私が高校生から大学生のころ、湯麺（タンメン）という塩味スープの野菜たっぷり麺が学生たちの間では主流でした
その後、サッポロラーメンから始まって、各地にご当地ラーメンができて名物になると、この湯麺はさっぱり見かけなくなりました
しかし野菜塩ラーメンのような名前で生き残っているようではありますが、名前を聞かなくなったのが残念です
今日はその湯麺に挑戦しました
まずこちらで手に入る「マミー」ブランドのインスタント麺の麺だけ取り出して熱湯に通して２分ほどほぐします
そこへたっぷりのキャベツともやしを投入して、キャベツがしんなりしてきたら火を止めます
それとは別に熱湯を用意して、どんぶりに固形チキンコンソメを１個入れて溶かします
どんぶりに半分ほどのスープを作って、鍋から先ほどの麺を少しずつ入れ、最後に焼き豚またはポークハムなどをトッピングして終了
これに胡椒を好みでふりかけて食べます
久しぶりに味わう湯麺の味は最高です

When I was a high school or university student, the Tang-mien noodle which was salty chicken soup with a lot of vegetables was very popular among the students.
After then starting the Sapporo ramen and local ramen appeared in everywhere, the name of Tang-mien disappeared from the field.
However, it still remains at different name such as “vegetable salty ramen”, however it is very regretful that the name of the “Tang-mien” disappeared.
Today I challenged to cook the “Tang-mien”.
The first, take out only the noodle from “Mamee” instant noodle and boil it in the pan.
After two minutes, through a lot of cabbage leaves and sprout into the pan and boil them together for a while.
In other hand, put the boiled water into the bowl and melt the cube chicken consommé.
Make about a half of the bowl soup and put the noodle and vegetables into the bowl.
Finally put some poke ham or roast poke on it.
Put some pepper, it’s very delicious.

隊員連絡所 JICA Doｒmitory

首都ホニアラにはJICAボランティアのための宿泊所があります
呼び名はボランティア連絡所となっていますが、地方勤務の隊員が首都へ上がってきたときの宿泊所であり、また首都隊員たちの溜まり場であり、さらにはマラリアなどの感染症の療養所にもなっています
先日あるJOCVがマラリアで療養中に、上がってきた地方隊員が一緒に生活していて、マラリアを発症しました
宿泊所内で「蚊－人－蚊感染」があったと断定はできませんが、可能性を否定できません
私は宿泊したことがないので詳しくは承知していませんが、ベッドルームは個室ではなく、２段ベッドで複数人がひとつの部屋に寝泊りするようになっているそうです
もしもここを、療養所としても使用するなら、少なくとも療養者だけは個室にして、蚊帳などの設備をすべきで、これをJICAに提案しようかと考えています

There is a hotel facility for the JICA volunteers in the capital city Honiara.
The name of it is “Volunteer Community House” and sometimes for a hotel for the local volunteers when they come up to Honiara, sometimes the community club for the Honiara volunteers and sometimes a medical treatment house for the volunteer who has infected the malarias or other disease.
Last someday, a malaria infected JOCV stayed there and another healthy JOCV stayed together for a week and she also appeared the malarias.
It is not concluded that was in-house infection but also undeniable.
I’m not sure the structure of the house because I’ve never stayed there, the bedrooms have some bunk beds in each.
If they use it as the medical treatment house, it must be a single room with mosquito net to avoid the possibility of in-house infections.
I will propose this to JICA in near future.

円高 A Strong Yen

先日の日銀為替介入の二日間ほどを除いて、しばらく１ドル８４円台の円高傾向が続いていますが、ソロモンドル（SBD）との交換レートにも大きく影響しています
７月にクレジットカード決済したホテル代金が１SBD＝12.336円だったのに比べて、１０月の決済では１SBD＝11.661円となっており、約６％の円高です
私たちが着任した６月末にはこちらの銀行での交換レートは１３円程度だったと記憶しています
したがって今はできればカード決済をして、日本円で支払うのがかなりお得な感じがします

The trend of the strong Japanese Yen about 84JPY/1USD continues for a while except for the two days of the intervention by the Nippon Ginko.
It also affects on the exchanging rate even on the Solomon dollars (SBD).
The exchanging rate of July this year which I paid for the hotel accommodation by the credit card was 12.336JPY, but in October it increased to 11.661 and it means about 6% of strengthen.
June when we arrived to Honiara, it was about 13yen.
If possible, we could pay by the credit card must be beneficial now.

この国の物価 Prices in this country

この国の物価は高いのか、それとも安いのか？
たとえば缶入りのコカコーラは２４本のカートンで１２０～１３０ドル、すなわち１本５０円ほどです
同じく缶入りのビールが２４本で２１６ドルですから１本が約９０円
牛のひき肉３００ｇで２７ドルは約２００円、鶏の胸肉３枚７００ｇが７０ドルで８００円ぐらいという感じです
またタバコはバラ売りで１本２ドル、私が当初宿泊した安ホテルが１泊５８０ドル、これが一流ホテルだと約２０００ドル、タブロイド紙が５ドル
まったく安いのか高いのかがわかりません
ただひとつ言えることは、外国人向け物資は間違いなく高い

The price in this country, is it cheep or expensive?
For example, a caned coca cola is 120-130 Solomon dollars for a carton of 24 means about 50 yen per a can.
Also a caned beer is 216 dollars for a carton of 24 means 90yen per a can.
Minced beef 27 dollars for 300g means about 200yen, 3 pieces of chicken breast 700g is 70 dollars means 800yen.
And a piece of cigarette is 2dollars, the cheap hotel which I stayed just after arriving was 580 dollars per night.
The best grade hotel in this country is about 2000 dollars and the tabloid paper is 5dollars.
I can’t tell cheap or expensive.
Only one I can say it is definitely very expensive for foreigners goods.

中秋節 The Moon Festival

日本では今日、秋分の日に中秋の名月と称して月を愛でながら団子を食べる習慣がありますが、これは元来中国の伝統的なお祭りのひとつ「中秋節」に習ったものです
本場中国ではこの時期の満月の日に中秋節がおこなわれ、家族揃って満月を愛で、またその日には極めてハイカロリーな「月餅（ゆえぴん）」を食べるそうです
この時期の祭りですから、収穫への感謝と家族の健康を願う祭りです
昨日、ホニアラの中国系住民の間ではこの「中秋節」がおこなわれ、どこの中華レストランも家族連れで満席になっていました

Today it is the Autumnal Equinox in Japan and we have the traditional custom to eat the dumplings under the fullmoonlight.
It is originally came from the “Moon Festival” which is one of the major festivals in China and all families get together and eat the “moon cake” which is extremely high calorie.
The festival in this season includes the meaning of the thanks for the harvest and to pray for the family's health.
Yesterday, the most of the Chinese immigrants cerebrated the moon festival and they were getting together and the most Chinese restaurants were fully booked in Honiara.
