虫刺され An Insect Bite

昨日草むしりの最中に右手薬指の付け根付近を蜂のような虫に刺され、すぐにキンカンを塗りにいえに入ったのですが、頼みのキンカンが完全に残量ゼロになっていました
その後夜になってだんだん痛みと痒み、それに腫れが増してきて今日はかなり酷い状態です
とりあえず冷やしていますが、マウスの操作はやりにくい事この上ないほどです
こんなときにすぐにキンカンを塗るとずいぶん違うのですが、残念！





Yesterday during weed the garden some insect like a bee had bit the base of my right third finger.
I went back to the room to find the “Kinkan” but it was completely empty.
At the night a pain and an itch increased with a swelling and today it became very serious.
I’m just cooling the affected area but it is very difficult to handle the mouse.
In such case, the “Kinkan” is very effective but unfortunately nothing.

雑草とり Weed the Garden

自宅の庭は全面的にクローバーが植えてありますが、ちょっと油断すると雑草が生えてきます
雨の多いこの国では、翌朝にはクローバーの間から元気良く雑草が顔を出します
したがって雑草取りは欠かせない日課です
前庭だけでも約200㎡あり、裏庭を含めるとクローバーが植えられている部分だけで約500㎡もありますので、すべてを毎日というわけにはいきません
普段は帰宅後の5時前後、陽射しが傾いてやや涼しくなったころにやります
装備で欠かせないのが虫除けスプレー、そして軍手です
軍手は指先の防護のほかに、予期せぬものを素手でつかむことを避けるためです
雑草は根っこから引き抜くのが原則ですので、クローバーの根元に指先を突っ込んで、雑草を根っこから引き抜きますが、そのときに注意しないとタイガー君の落し物に遭遇し、それをつかんでしまいます
今日は裏庭を中心にかなり広範囲に草むしりをして、ドラム缶はほぼ満タンです

　

　

The clover is planted in my whole garden but if I will not careful for the maintenance a lot of weeds come out.
In this country of a lot of rain, many weeds stand up between the clover at next morning of rainy night.
So the weed the garden is the necessary daily work.
However it is about 200㎡broad even in the front yard and including the back yard it is about 500㎡.
It is too difficult to weed all garden every day.
Usually do it after I come back home around 5 pm when the sunshine becomes little mild.
The necessary goods for the weeding are the insect repellent spray and cotton groves.
The groves are for the guard of the fingers and also for the unexpected things touch with the bare hands.
The weeding is basically pulling out from the glass root and sometimes the drop of Tiger appears under the cloverleaves.
Today I wed out around the back yard and the drum became almost full.

大掃除 House Cleaning

年末といえば日本では大掃除がつきものです
ソロモンではとくにそういう習慣は無いようですが、私がこの家に住み始めてから今日初めてゴミ収集車が来ました
やはり年末の大掃除なのでしょうか
我が家の大掃除のほとんどはガラス拭きです
この家の窓ガラスはすべてルーバーになっており、窓ひとつで１２枚から２４枚のルーバーガラスが使われています
その窓が全部で１８箇所合計約２５０枚のガラスを拭きます
実は１２月の初旬から始めていて、すでに約１００枚のガラスは拭き上がっています
残りを今日中に全部できるかどうかというところです
このルーバー窓はメンテナンスがかなり面倒ですが、風通しの良いことからこの国ではほとんどの住宅で使用されています
とくにキッチンの窓は、大物食器の水切りに最適で、洗ったあとの食器の乾燥場になります

　

　

At the end of year, we used to do the house cleaning in Japan.
In Solomon Islands there seems no custom like this but today I saw the garbage-collecting track for the first time since I moved to this house.
It may be an action of end of the year.
The most of the work in my home is the glass cleaning.
All windows are the glass rover and 12-24 grasses in each window.
The windows are totally 18 and total glasses are about 250.
Actually I started it since the beginning of this month and about 100 glasses are already finished.
150 glasses are remaining and it is today’s job.
The rover window is very hard to maintain but it is good for the wind passing through and almost all houses in this country have the glass rover.
Especially at the kitchen, it is useful for the draining the big dishes or pans after wash.

ひとりスキヤキ Sukiyaki alone

今日はクリスマス明けの日曜日、一般商店はすべて休みですが、ククムという場所の路上マーケットとホットブレッドというパン屋さんだけは営業です
午前中９時までに家の仕事を済ませて、出かけました
ククムマーケットで何と白菜を発見し、即購入しました
小さいですが２個で１０ドル（１２０円ほど）でした
家の冷蔵庫に以前に買った「スキヤキビーフ」なるものがあり、そうなるとデイナーは間違いなくスキヤキです
ついでにネギを買って、確か春雨の在庫があったと思い出しながら帰宅
早速材料の確認をしました
夕方５時から仕込みをはじめ、といっても割り下を作るだけですが、適当な鍋がないので、フライパンに材料を乗せ、割り下と醤油、砂糖、みりんを入れて着火
グツグツと煮えてきたら、ドアの外からキャインキャインとタイガーの声がします
直前に夕食を与えてあるにもかかわらず、良い匂いにはとても敏感です
美味しそうに出来上がりましたが、残念ながら今日もひとりで食べます





It is Sunday of after Christmas and all general shops are closed but only the street market at Kukumu and the bakery of Hotbread are opened.
I finished the all housework and went out.
I found the Hakusai ay the Kukumu market and bought it.
It was little bit small and 10 dollars for two.
I have a pack of Sukiyaki-beef in my refrigerator and today’s dinner must be “Sukiyaki”.
I bought the long onion too and thinking about the stock of the rice noodle and came back home.
I confirmed the all materials.
I started to cook at 5:00 pm, making the base soup and put all materials into the fry pan.
Adding the base soup, soy sauce, sugar and Mirin and put the fire.
When it became to boiling Tiger had cried from outside of the door.
He ate just before but he was so sensitive for the good smell.
It was accomplished and seemed so nice but unfortunately I had to eat by myself alone.

クリスマスケーキ Christmas Cake

今日はJICAドミでささやかなクリスマスパーティーがあります
ボランティアの約半数は任国外旅行などで出かけており、首都に残った７～８名だけで集まることになりました
例によって一品持ち寄りなので、今回は無謀にもデコレーションケーキに挑戦です
昨日買い集めた材料は、ケーキミックス、生卵、牛乳、生クリームなどです
昨夜のうちにスポンジケーキを焼きましたが、泡たてが不十分だったせいか、やや固めの仕上がりです
まずスポンジケーキを半分にスライスして、間に苺ジャムを挟んで戻します
さらにもう２ｃｍほど上をスライスして、完熟パイナップルの薄切りを挟みました
この上からホイップクリームを塗る予定で、クリーム作りを始めましたが、全くクリーム状になりません
詳しそうな人に電話でアドバイスを受けましたが、一応やり方は合っているようです
電話を置いて再度かき混ぜると何故かすぐに固まり始め、ホイップクリームができました
電話で話している間に、偶然氷水に漬けた容器がよく冷えて固まったようです
これでコツがわかりました





Today we have a small Christmas party at JICA dormitory.
About half of the volunteers are going to the abroad trip and remained 7~8 people will be getting together.
As usual, each of us has to bring one cooking and I attempt to bake a decoration cake.
The materials that I collected yesterday were cake mix, eggs, milk, and whip cream.
I had baked the sponge cake last night but it was little hard probably because not enough whipping.
The first, slicing the cake about a half and put the strawberry jam and slice again about 2cm above and put the thin sliced completely ripened pineapple.
Finally covering all of cake with whipped cream and started the cream whipping.
However it doesn’t become hard and I asked to my friend through the phone.
It was completely right and put the phone and started again and soon it becomes hard.
It may be a good effect to leave the bowl into the iced bucket during phone talking by chance.
I got the hang of it.
