窓ガラス拭き Cleaning Up the Window Glasses

先日来窓ガラスを順に拭いていますが、あまりの数の多さに作業がはかどっていません

日本の家屋やビルの窓はアルミサッシを使った引き違い戸がほとんどですが、これだと窓を開けても窓の面積の半分しか開きません

しかしソロモンの家の窓はほとんどがルーバー方式で、開けば窓の面積全部がオープンになりますので風通しは大変よく、南国の生活の知恵から生まれた工夫です

問題は手入れですが、各家庭には普段家で過ごす娘や主婦などがいて、その人たちがこまめに拭いて手入れをしています

普通外国人はメイドを雇って家の掃除や洗濯を任せますが、私の場合には経済な余裕もありませんので、入居当初に電気掃除機を購入してメイドを雇っていません

大家さんが雇ってくれたガーデンキーパーが週に2回庭の掃除と草むしりなどをしてくれますが、家の中には入ってほしくないので、庭だけにとどめています

写真で窓拭きをする前と後の違いがわかりますでしょうか

拭いた場所はあたりが明るくなったような気がします

しかしこのガラスが窓1か所あたり4枚から8枚で、全部で26か所あり、その合計は約300枚になります

これを12月の初旬から順に拭き始めましたが、今日はすべてを終わる予定です

Since beginning of this month I had been wiping the window glasses of my house but they are plenty number of glasses and it is not finished yet.

The windows of Japanese houses and buildings are almost the slide type with the aluminium sash and in this case when opening the window the half of the window still closed and not able to be full opened.

Windows of Solomon Islands buildings are almost louver type that could be fully opened which can get good breeze.

It is the sense of the South Pacific life.

The problem is the maintenance and general Solomon home there are several persons who are staying at home like the daughters and wife and they will clean it up every day.

Usually the resident foreigners employ the maid and they are doing the house cleaning and washing.

However in my case I bought a vacuum cleaner instead of employing the maid by the economical reason.

Only I ask to the garden keeper who is employed by the landlord to clean up only outside of the house because I don’t like to accept to enter the room.

Is it be recognized the difference between before and after cleaning on the pictures?

After wiping I feel it becomes little lighter around there than before.

However there are 4 to 8 glasses per a window and there are 26 windows and total of the glasses are about 300.

I started to clean since beginning of this month and I will accomplish all within today.

ソーラ・ライト修理 Reparing the Solar Light

昨日は北野建設ソロモン営業所の所長宅でバーベキューパーティーがあり、そこで深夜までご馳走になっていたので、更新できませんでした

今日はいつも通りに8時15分に出勤して、放射線科の医師と新しい器械の導入計画の打ち合わせをしましたが、そのあとはこれと言って仕事がなかったので3時に帰宅しました

自宅で頼まれていたソーラ・ライトの修理にとりかかりました

依頼は電源スイッチの接触不良ということでしたが、スイッチを点検しても異常が見つかりません

しかし所有者の申告によると電源スイッチがついている基板の両端の線を短絡すると点灯するというので、やってみるとそのとおり点灯します

スイッチそのものの端子を短絡しても点灯しません

スイッチと基板の両端の間にはいくつかのダイオードとキャパシターが入っていて、何故基板の両端を短絡すると点灯するのか理由がわかりません

しかしそれで動作するならそれもよしとして、本来のスイッチがついたボードの取り付け部を外して空中配線にして、絶縁テープで巻きました

そして基板の両端から新たに配線とスイッチを増設して終了です

理由はわかりませんが新たに追加したスイッチで点灯するようになりました

医療機器には適用することはできませんが、途上国では機器の修理にこのような手段を使うことがしばしばあります

 

 

Last night the director of Kitano Construction Solomon Branch invited us to his residence for the BBQ party.

We enjoyed the talk and the foods till late night and I couldn’t update my blog.

This morning I went to work 8:15 as usual and had the small meeting with the radiologist about the newly installed fluoroscope.

After then I didn’t have any important job and I came back home at 3:00.

I started to fix the solar light that a JOCV asked me to fix few days ago.

The complaint was that may be the loose contact of the power switch.

I checked the switch function but it works well.

The owner of the light said that short circuiting the both terminal of the switch board it lighted.

I tried and confirmed to light.

However there are several diodes and capacitors between the switch and the terminal.

I couldn’t understand why it lights to short circuit the terminals.

Anyway it works well and I decided to add another switch to make a short circuit between the both terminals.

I covered the conventional switch by the insulating tape and mantled another switch.

I was not sure why it lighted but in the developing countries these kinds of techniques are often used for fixing the instruments except for the medical equipment.

炊飯器修理 The Rice Cooker Reparing

クリスマスから年始にかけて学校教員隊員は長期休暇になるため、それぞれ任国外旅行に出かけるとか首都に上がってきて過ごします

そのときに日常使用している器械で具合の悪い物を持ってきて、私のところへ修理依頼ということになります

今回はそのひとつで、日本製の炊飯器が舞い込みました

2004年T社製のマイコン制御でかなりいろいろな機能を持っている高級品です

症状は炊飯モードにはなるものの、全く加熱しないということです

まず本体を裏返しにして、分解の手順を探ります

裏側のビス2本を外して、あとはハメコミ式の樹脂製の裏蓋を外せばいいことがわかりました

症状から推定して疑わしいのは、ヒーターエレメントの断線、あるいは温度ヒューズの断線、そして内釜を取り出したときに作動する安全スイッチの接触不良などに当たりをつけて点検を開始します

まず温度ヒューズはOKでした

その次にヒーターエレメントの配線を外しておいて抵抗を測ると無限大です

本体ラベルには100V450Wと書いてありますので、電流は4.5Aですからヒーターの抵抗はおおよそ22.2オームのはずですが、何度測りなおしても無限大のままです

念のため最後の可能性の安全スイッチの動作を確認しましたが、これも異常なし

ということでヒーターエレメントの断線という結論に至りました

こればかりは残念ながら交換部品もありませんので、修理不可ということで返却しようと思います

 

 

Around the Christmas and New Year the JOCVs who are working as teachers of school have long holidays.

Some of them go out abroad and some of them are spending holiday at capital city.

Then they bring their electric appliances that are not working well and ask to me to fix them.

This time one of them the Japanese “Rice Cooker” had been brought.

It was the T Company made in 2004 which had so many functions and micro-processor controlled very high quality one.

The symptom was that it seemed to be cooking mode but not heated up.

The first I put the cooker upside down and studied how to dismantle.

I found two screws and the ratchet bottom lid made of plastic.

I guessed from the symptoms that the broken heater element, and thermal fuse and loose contact of the safety switch that works when the cooking pan is removed are suspicious and started to check.

The first thermal switch worked well.

The second the measuring the resistance of the heater element it showed infinity.

Also I checked the feature of the safety, it worked well.

I tried to measure the heater resistance and it was still infinity.

According to the specification label, it showed 100V/450W.

It means the current consumption was 4.5Amps and the heater resistance must be about 22.2 ohms.

I concluded that the heater element had broken and unfortunately it was not fixable.

 

ボクシング・デー The Boxing Day

クリスマスの翌日である今日は、ソロモンでは公休日です

カレンダーを見るとボクシングデーと書いてある

ウィキペディアで調べてみたら、キリスト教に由来するもので、通常身の回りの世話をしてくれるメイドや郵便配達などを労うために小さな箱に入れたプレゼントを贈るらしい

そして翌27日が感謝祭でやはり休日です

感謝祭はたぶん収穫に対する感謝だと記憶していますが、2日続けて感謝のために仕事を休めるというのも悪くないなあと思います

しかしそのあと30日までは通常に勤務して、年明けも第一月曜すなわち2日から仕事です

こう考えると日本の休日のほうが自分にとっては休まる気がします

 

Today that is the next day of the Christmas is the public holiday.

In the calendar it is described as the Boxing Day.

I checked the meaning of it by Wikipedia and found that originated from the Christian.

It is a day to present something in a small box to the maid or post man who usually contributes to us.

Also after the Boxing Day is the public holiday of Thanks Giving day.

Thanks Giving day I remember is to thank for the harvest and it is good for us to have two consecutive holidays.

However after this till end of the year we have to work and start to work from January 2^nd.

I feel that the Japanese holiday is better for me to have a rest.

クリスマスイブ The Christmas Eve

今日はクリスマスイブ、JICA関係者、大使館関係者と一緒にホテルのディナーパーティーに行ってきました

日系ホテルのキタノ・メンダナホテルのビュッフェディナーが一人300ドルですから約3000円です

料理はかなり豪華で、その気になれば十分に元をとれる内容でしたが、健康を考えて控えめにしました

満席でしたがソロモン人のグループは一組だけで、あとは白人と日本人に中国人です

クリスマスソングのライブもあり、やっと12月を実感できるひとときでした

帰宅してシャワーを浴びて現在12時近いですが、近くの教会からは讃美歌やドボルザークの新世界の合唱が聞こえてきます

 

 

It is Christmas Eve today we JICA and Japanese Embassy workers went to the dinner party at the hotel together.

The buffet dinner of the Japanese hotel Kitano-Mendana cost $300 means about 3,000JPY per person.

The foods were so gorgeous and if I wanted it could be paid enough but I didn’t take so much considering my health.

The restaurant was fully booked and Solomon Islanders group was only one and others were whites, Japanese and Chinese.

The live music of the Christmas songs were shown and it made me realize that it was the December.

After coming back home and it is about 12 O’clock several voices chorus of hymns and “from the new world” of Dvorak are sound.
