The meeting showed that the United States has recognized its need for diverse informal allies in the face of the rise of China, and that China has realized its promise of rising in peace is not taken at face value by its neighbors.
中国の、平和的台頭といううたい文句は、あまり信頼されていないし、米国もこの地域の国々の協力が必要だ、と。
None of this suggests that countries in the region are overtly ganging up on China, with which they would like stable relations. All are aware of the trade benefits that China’s growth has brought and hope that China will continue to provide a motor for their economies, as the United States once did.
China is itself still building its strategic relationship with others in mainland Asia, notably Myanmar and Laos, and also tempting Thailand.
All of these governments know that the United States is no longer all-powerful, and some of them celebrate this fact. Resentments remain, ranging from double standards on economic and trade issues to America’s alleged meddling in the name of human rights issues. But concern over China’s potential to make its neighbors into tributary states is rising.
中国をよってたかって攻撃する気もないし、なによりも、中国は経済的なエンジンとして地域には必要で、アメリカは衰退しつつあるし、アメリカの２重基準などについて恨みもあるが、しかし、中国が周辺国を属国にしようとしているのもこわい。
Isues and interests are diverse, economic and strategic ones sometimes at odds. This is not a black-and-white situation. But at root is the common agenda of how to manage China’s rapid rise and America’s slow decline.
Hanoi 2010 may not be the equivalent of the 1955 Bandung conference, which launched the Non-Aligned Movement as a counter to a two-bloc world. But it does signal the rise of multilateralism in Asian affairs in which China and the United States are the biggest players, but only two among many.
複雑な事情がからみあい、白黒はっきりはしていないが、しかし、問題の核心は中国の急速な台頭とアメリカの緩やかな衰退で、この地域は多極化し、中国と米国は最大プレイヤーになるだろうが、しかし、それぞれが、数あるプレーヤーの一国にすぎない。
そんな感じでしょうけど、日本はどうすればどうすればいいのか、というと、やはり、民主国家と協働し、また、同じような懸念を有する国の民主化のお手伝いをしながら、協調していく、ということになるのでしょう。
これをもって、ネオコン とかいう評論家もでてくるかもしれませんが、しかし、米国流のものとはかなり違う。
何なら、根尾こん太、とかいうキャラもつくってもらいましょうか？

This is a special election year in the US. For the first time, corporations are allowed to funnel as much money as they want into political campaigns – and they are definitely not missing out on the chance to buy influence on Capitol Hill.
“What they’re hoping to do is bend laws and regulations, or prevent new laws and regulations from being approved that will cut their bottom lines,” says Zach Carter, economics editor for alternet.org. “The problem is a lot of these rules and regulations exist for a purpose. They’re supposed to protect the public interest.”
アメリカ。企業からの政治献金が無制限になった、と。、企業の横暴から公益を守るために法律があるのに、企業の利益のために法律や規則が歪められるようになるだろう、と。
一部の利益団体のために公益がおろそかになるという構図はどこでも見られるものですね。

これはグッドニュースですね。
農家だって、自助努力によって頑張っていけるわけです。
素人からすると、自民党の政策も民主党の政策も農家の票集めのためにやっているように思える。
農家の戸別保障するなら、自営業やサラリーマンの戸別保障してくれよ、と、生産した米をすべて買い取るというなら、生産した工場の製品もすべて買い取ってくれよ、と言いたくもなる。

Imagine being targeting as a criminal before a crime has even been committed. Analysts say the US is now prosecuting suspected terrorist on the basis of their intentions, not actions.
It's called preemptive prosecution, and many argue the FBI is concocting scenarios to incarcerate innocent people.
International human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have been silent on the matter.
Like preemptive strikes abroad, Downs argued Washington is waging a similar offensive here at home. Targeting citizens who one day could, possibly, maybe, commit a crime.
He said the endless list of FBI targets include Aafia Siddiqui, a neuroscientist and mother of three. Fahad Hashmi, a university scholar and Muslim activists. Lynne Stewart, a civil rights lawyer who accused the Bush administration of violating the US constitution and civil rights. All three were accused of supporting terrorism though not convicted on any terror related charges.
FBI,危険なやつはみんなしょっぴけ、と。
犯罪というのは、実害があって、罪になるのが原則で、せいぜい具体的な危険があって、未遂罪、というのがありますけど、昨今は企んだだけで、あるいは、企んでいなくても、しょっ引かれる可能性が出てきているし、アメリカには現にそうした被害者がいる、というわけです。
常日頃、日本の警察権力濫用を嘆いている一部在日米人の方々が、それでも日本にいる理由の一つはそれでしょうかね？
