Egypt's Vice-President Omar Suleiman is the nation’s former spy chief, a friend of the US, a reported torturer, and has long been touted as the next presidential successor.
As the Egyptian revolution unfolds, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak remains in power, but his is not the only US backed political leader in the nation..............


Journalist Pepe Escobar from the Asia times explained the US fears Arab democracy. The US needs dictators and autocracies which are controlled to secure oil supplies and the security of Israel, he argued. It is easier to control one or a small body then a large democratic body............

Egypt it pivotal to US policy in the Middle East, and they fear any change to their control over oil and the security of Israel, argued Escobar.
Lisa Hajjar, an associate professor of sociology at the University of California in Santa Barbara argued Suleiman is the CIA’s man in Egypt, and has been for years.
Suleiman ran Egypt’s counterpart to the CIA up until just a few days ago when we was appointed as Vice President by Mubarak. He has actively worked with the CIA is programs targeting al-Qaeda and other groups, she said.
Following 9/11 Suleiman became even more relevant, acting as a major player in carrying out America’s “Dirty work.”
“Suleiman had his hands literally dirty in the torture of several people,” Hajjar commented.
There is a great deal of torture that goes on routinely in Egypt, she explained. Suleiman has focused on targeting international terrorist criminals, at the behest of the United States.

There is no figure in either country comparable to Khomeini. There has been no violent jihadist rhetoric. What appears to have driven so many people into the streets is a common sense of economic frustration, disgust with official corruption - and humiliation at being oppressed.

Memoirs of ex-US defense secretary self-serving – anti-war activist

By publishing his memoirs, Rumsfeld, just like Bush before him, tries to create a new history based on fiction, argues Brian Becker from the anti-war Answer coalition.

“You cannot help to think about the old cliché that history is nothing but fiction, agreed upon,” he said.

“The fiction is that the war in Iraq was justified, that they did the right thing,” he added. “They spent hundreds of billions of dollars, perhaps up to $2 trillion, in a war which took the lives of a million Iraqis according to the Lancet medical journal.”

However, Becker thinks the book will have almost no impact because people can see for themselves that the war in Iraq was an absolute catastrophe, as America’s image is completely ruined around the world and Iraq is a broken country.

“This is a self-serving journal, a revenge memoir in some way – nothing but a self-serving action,” Becker declared. “The history is clear for all to see right now.”

“I think they invaded Iraq because there was an agenda and they went on the assumption there was a massive WMD and we showed up in 2003, and it wasn’t there,” O'Brien said. “Here we are now eight years later, 4,500 – 5,000 Americans dead, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead on an assumption.”
The book argues the world is now a better place since Saddam Hussein is gone, regardless of the other lost lives or impact.
“It is also a better place that he is gone and half a million Iraqi’s are dead who wouldn’t be dead if we hadn’t invaded?” remarked O'Brien.
He argued there were early plans to invade because Bush wanted to show the world he was a serious leader capable of leadership.

America is quick to condemn other nations for the sexual exploitation of girls, when in fact it occurs daily in the United States.
Contrary to public belief in America sexual exploitation of children does not only take place in developing countries.
The trafficking of minor is a big moneymaker, the third highest profit driver among organized crime in the United States. Often, American teens and children are recruited in public areas, such as malls, entertainment centers and schools.
Tina Frundt, the founder of Courtney’s House, a non-profit organization that helps girls who have been victims of human or sex trafficking, explained many in the US believe there are lots of laws put in place to protect trafficked children, when in reality there are not.
Powerful and rich men in the United States, specifically in Washington DC, seek out sex with girls that are often trafficked blocks from the White house.

A US investigation into Toyota safety problems has found no electronic flaws to explain complaints about unintended acceleration.

去年大騒ぎしておったトヨタ自動車の急加速問題、電子系統に問題はなかった、と。
ABCのあの実験はなんだったんだろう？ーーーてか、あれははなから科学的な推論とは言えなかった。
集団ヒステリーにかかるのは別にアメリカだけとはかぎらないが、大国にやられるとインパクトも大きい。

'Korea's per capita porn spending highest in world'

South Koreans are found to be the world’s top buyer of pornographic materials, according to Newsweek.

The U.S. weekly magazine said on its latest online edition that Koreans spent an average $527 per person in 2006 to watch pornography through CDs, videos and other mediums, followed by Japan’s $157 and Finland’s $114.

Pornography revenue per capita for Australia came in third at $99, followed by Brazil at $53, Czech Republic at $45 and the U.S at $45.

ロシア側は、大統領の訪問後も第１副首相や国防相らが国後島などを訪れた。そのなかで北方領土での軍事力強化や、韓国の企業も巻き込んで開発を推進する方針も打ち出した。

　これが四島の実効支配を固める動きとして日本側に警戒を呼び起こしたのは当然だろう。

　北方四島は交渉で帰属問題を解決すると日ロ両政府が何度も合意した場所である。ここで既成事実を積み重ね、ロシアへの帰属を無理やり認めさせるような乱暴な手法は許されない。

　しかし、なんかこの北方領土問題もしらけているな。

　やる気もない、手だてもない、口先だけなら、世界情勢の変化に応じて、戦略の転換も必要ではないか？


外国人看護師　日本語を非関税障壁にするな（2月9日付・読売社説）

試験問題の見直しや在留期間延長は、基本的には弥縫策だ

インドネシアやフィリピンにすれば、極端な合格率の低さは、ＥＰＡで製品をどんどん売り込みながら、看護師らの受け入れは、日本語という“非関税障壁”でブロックしている「日本の身勝手さの象徴」と映るのではないか。

どうかね？

　制度設計そのものに欠陥があったことは確かだろうが、高い日本語能力が要求される仕事に就こうという移民に高い日本語能力を要求するのは、決して身勝手なことではない。
　このハードルを低くしてしまえば、危険がある商品を買わされるようなものだろう。

　すでに在留している方々の在留期間延長は当然として、今後は、応募者が日本に来ていただく前に、その資格として、日本語検定試験などかすべきであろう。

　そもそも、移民に日本語能力を要求することは理不尽でもなんでもない。
　来日する移民の人権擁護、また、迎入れる日本国民との交流のためにも必須要件である。
　
　読売も保守ならば、最低限、日本語も保守してほしい。
