プランクトンの写真。

12月11日のブログにのせたミジンコたちの作品を撮った写真ができました。綺麗にとれてうれしい。
うちの大学は専門の写真家を雇っていて、その人に頼むと撮ってくれる。またこれが、腕がよくって！優しい人なんだ！！そして日本が大好き。仙台に行って写真を撮りたいって。
「もう、行くだけなんだ！そこですべきことは分かってるのに！！行くだけなんだよ！！」
って力説してくれました。

実際はプラスティックでつくった1，2センチのと、5センチの小さな物体。せっかくなのでテキストもつけちゃいましょう☆


Fossil remains of what has been
called the living jewellery of the sea.
These are the glassy skeletons of
radiolarians,single-celled animals
that drift in their millions among
the plankton of the oceans.Their
remains sink to the ocean floor,
and in places make up 30 percent
of the ocean sediments.

　

A rather unusual deep sea predator,
-the crustacean Phronima prays on
salps, barrel-shaped animals with
transparent bodies. The female
Phronima eats out the soft parts
of the salp,then lays her eggs in
its ‘shell’, propelling it along with
her legslike a floating perambulator.

These sea butterflies live in
the mid-deeps of the North
Atlantic in large shoals,
flapping clumsily through the water.
They are sometimes called ‘flying angels’,
but belie their name
and prey on other sea butterflies.
Porpita jellyfish look rather like



Catherine wheels. They live at
the surface of the ocean, trailing
their stringing tentacles in the
water below. The central disk is
a float to keep the jellyfish at the
surface. This is a colonial jellyfish,
made up of many distinct individuals
which act like a single animal



An almost transparent comb jelly swims
by means of rows of cilia
which beat in waves along its body.
Here some of the cilia are producing
interference colours.
This is a carnivorous animal,
trapping prey on sticky tentacles.
