roll a six

日曜日のジョッキングは久しぶりになぎさ公園経由の葛西臨海公園のコースを走りました。なぎさ公園で時計草(Pashionflower)が咲いているのに気がついたので、翌日写真を撮ってきました。
さて本来の話題に移ります。Linked by Albert-Laszlo Barabasiを読み始めました。　Notesを入れると２７９ページもあるので私にはちょっと厚めの本です。　サブタイトルに "How Everythins Is Connected to Everything Else and What It Means for Business, Science, and Everyday Life" と書かれていました。
第２章(The Second Link, The Random Universe) にあった表現です。
They decided that the simplest way to create a network was to play dice: Choose two nodes and, if you roll a six, place a link between them. For any other roll of the dice, do not connect these two nodes but choose a different pair and start over.
この "roll a six" に最初は引っ掛かったのですが、直ぐ後に "roll of the dice" とあるので、サイコロを転がして６を出す意味だと分かりした。　サイコロと言うと、英語では　"The die is cast." の文しか知らないので、動詞の "roll" とサイコロが直ぐには結び付かなかったのです。　一応辞書で "roll" の項を見てみます。
・Oxford English Dictionary: obtain (a particular score) by throwing a die or dice: roll a 2,3, or 12; roll the dice
