老化予防と寿命拡大の新薬発見！

米国の科学者による報告では、パラマイシンを投与したネズミは、
最大38％も長生きをしたとの結果を発表した。
この薬の効果は、将来、人間の老化予防に役立つと期待される。

ラパマイシンは、なんと　モアイ像で知られる南太平洋のイースター島（チリ）で
採取された細菌から発見された抗生物質。
通常、臓器移植時に免疫抑制剤として使われるほか、
最近では抗がん剤としても注目されている。

Tests raise life extension hopes

A drug discovered in the soil of
a South Pacific island may help to fight the ageing process,
research suggests.

When US scientists treated old mice with rapamycin
it extended their expected lifespan by up to 38%.
The findings, published in the journal Nature,
raise the prospect of being able to slow down the ageing process
