An English version!
Our names are Alicia the Canadian and Rebecca the Australian.
We arrived within a day of each other at Brown's Field and have been here for over a month now.
Going to Inakuma-san's farm on Wednesday was a fabulous experience. It was very inspiring to see a family living a happy, sustainable lifestyle, as well as getting to see how involved all members of the family are in the farm.
Not to mention, the food that we tasted at morning tea and during an incredible extended lunch break was delicious! The black bean miso was a particular favourite, and the outstanding home-made sakura (cherry blossom) cake knocked our socks off...time and time again...we ate so much!
We were busy before our eating adventures, helping Inakuma-san clean up some of last year's planting beds. Alicia gave Inakuma-san a run for his money - Gaijin girls can work pretty darned hard, he discovered! Digging up the last crop of sato imo was particularly satisfying as it involved hurling clods of Japanese potatoes at the ground. Not only were they fun to throw around, they were tasty too...especially with black bean miso!
The day was so enjoyable that we tried to convince Inakuma-san to keep us on, but he politely declined...maybe he couldn't handle working that hard all the time?! Or maybe we'd just eat them out of house and farm!
So we drove back to Brown's Field and lived happily ever after.
