”Those Were The Days” Mary Hopkin
原曲は『遥かな道』というロシア民謡でアメリカでも親しまれていたものを、1962年にこれをアメリカのクラブ歌手
ジーン・ラスキンが曲と詩をアレンジしてライムライターズがレコードをリリースした楽曲です。
これをイギリスのタレント発掘番組『Opportunity Knocks』で脚光を浴びていたメリー・ホプキンが唄ったもので、
日本では1968年12月から翌年の3月にかけての大ヒットになりました。
しかし、メリー・ホプキンは当時18歳、この歌詞を唄うにしてはあまりにも若すぎましたね。
また、同時期にエディ・マルネが仏詩をつけたヴィッキー盤とも競合しています。
