Yesterday, I participated in the 70th anniversary event of the foundation of "Hofu Minami Air Base" of the Japan Air SDF.
I gave a speech in front of the aviation students.
I was very impressed by the bold and confident moves of the young students, who enrolled only two months ago, and their growth.
I encouraged them by saying that "The future of Japan rests on your shoulders." (to be continued)

On June 1, Italian naval aircraft carrier >"Cavour" (C 550) departed Taranto in southern Italy toward the Indo-Pacific Region.
It will make the 1st port call in Japan in the later August, via Australia and so on, and attempt to upgrade security cooperation.

When Italian PM Giorgia Meloni visited Japan in February, he said that the Cavour and other vessels would be dispatched to conduct joint training with the SDF.
Italy has been upgrading its involvement in the Indo-Pacific Region. In June last year, a multi-purpose patrol vessel made a port call at the Japan Maritime SDF Yokosuka Naval Base (Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Pref.).
The Cavour was commissioned in 2008.
It can carry short/vertical take-off and landing fighter jets (STOVL aircraft) and helicopters.

On June 1, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of S. Korean forces revealed that, since around 8:00 pm on that day (the same Japan local time), N. Korea once again flew balloons carrying trash and so on to the S. Korean side.
Around 90 ones were detected in Seoul or nearby Gyeonggi Province.
It explained that the contents were >"various pieces of trash, such as cigarette butts, paper and plastic bags.
The JCS advised people not to touch the objects and report them to nearby military or police authorities, and cautioned of possible damage from the balloons."

Since on May 28 night, S. Korea flew similar large balloons. Kim Yo-jong -- vice director of the WPK, who is younger sister of General Secretary of the WPK, Kim Jong Un -- explained in her statement that it's a counter-measure against distribution of leaflets criticizing the N. Korean regime by an organization in S. Korea, and provoked that it was >"sincere presents."
S. Korea warned to take >'"unendurably" painful measures against North Korea if it continues to stage "irrational" provocative acts.'
In the previous time, totally around 260 balloons were detected.

A memorial monument was erected in 1973 in Tokyo Public Yokoamicho Park (Sumida Ward, Tokyo), and a memorial service is held every year on Sept. 1.
To the ceremony, the successive Tokyo Governors sent a memorial writing. However, Gov. Yuriko Koike has not sent since 2017.
Kato pointed out that an organization (* >"そよ風") that claims to correct the number of the victims (* not justify the perpetration) has continuously carried out activities aiming to removal (* or correction) of the memorial monument and cancel the ceremony.

On June 1, S. Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik lectured at the IISS Asia Security Summit (* aka the (21st) Shangri-La Dialogue) in Singapore.
He strongly criticized Russia, one of the P-5 of the U.N. Security Council, for accepting arms support from N. Korea, which repeatedly violates UN Security Council resolutions, as a "betrayal of the international community," and called for an immediate end to illegal arms trade.
