この曲は1961年にイギリスのジェフ・ゴダードが書き下ろしたブリティッシュ・ポップスで、当時、俳優志望であった
ジョーン・レイトンに余興としてレコーディングさせたのが何と全英1位の大ヒットとなってしまいました。
アメリカでは全くヒットしていなかったのですが、哀愁を帯びた日本人好みの曲調が注目を集め【今週のベストテン】
では1962年3月から7月にかけて21週連続でランクインし、最高2位を記録しています。
