On Aug. 7, TEPCO began the 8th maritime discharge of treated waste water from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant since August last year.
This is the 4th release in FY2024, and approx. 7,800 tons are scheduled to be released by the 25th.
According to TEPCO, its prior analysis confirmed that the tritium and other radioactive substances contained in the treated waste water to be released meet the standards set by the government and TEPCO.

The treated waste water maritime discharge was kicked off on Aug. 24 last year, and totally around 55,000 tons were already released over seven times.
The maximum concentration of tritium detected in "rapid measurements," in which analysis of seawater sampled from around the plant is made public on the next day, was 29 becquerels per liter, well below both TEPCO's standard for halting release (700 becquerels) and the World Health Organization's (WHO) drinking water standard (10,000 becquerels).
