Now, here is a new English-language expression for you: “a meal ticket”. It is one I like very much. A real example: “What I advised Tatiana when we had lunch last week and she told me she was looking for a job was that she needed to find (or get) herself “a meal ticket”.” She too did not know the term. Women may use it in reference to men. A man does not like to be referred to as “a meal ticket”, naturally.
something or someone that you depend on to give you money or food
My M.B.A. has not been the meal ticket I had hoped.
dream ticket: ideal joint candidacy: a team of candidates running for associated political offices, especially those of president and vice president, who seem to have between them all the qualities needed for electoral success
hot ticket: someone or something very popular
walking ticket: an order to leave; dismissal, as from office.
