How do you think Matsuzaka will perform in his first year in the Majors? And what should we expect in the future? Is he the next Pedro Martinez?

With his talent alone, I think Matsuzaka should win about 15 games in 2007. Whether he wins more than that will be determined by how quickly he adjusts to a more competitive environment. As for the future, I think he has a chance to be special, but it's not fair to compare anyone to Martinez. When all is said and done, Martinez will go down as one of the great pitchers of all time.

大家はブルージェイズに移籍

Free agent pitcher Tomo Ohka reached preliminary agreement on a one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, his agent said Tuesday.

Agent Jim Masteralexis declined to reveal contract terms. He said Ohka turned down a pair of two-year offers to sign with Toronto, in hopes of re-establishing his value and signing another deal with the Blue Jays or going back out on the market as a free agent next winter.

Ohka has a 48-58 record with a 4.04 ERA in parts of eight seasons with Boston, Montreal/Washington and Milwaukee. He threw only 97 innings last year with the Brewers because of injuries to his shoulder and hamstring.

The Blue Jays have Roy Halladay, A.J. Burnett and Gustavo Chacin as their projected 1-3 starters. Ohka will compete for a spot in the rotation with John Thomson, Casey Janssen, Shaun Marcum and Dustin McGowan.
