Robson wants more of same from Ina

BRYAN Robson has urged Junichi Inamoto to prove his Carling Cup heroics were no flash in the pan.
The Albion boss hailed the Japan star's display in the 3-2 win at his former club Fulham on Tuesday as 'outstanding' as he capped a tigerish central midfield display by scoring one of the goals of the season.
But with next summer's World Cup looming large, Robson doesn't want 'Ina's' Craven Cottage display to be a one-off - as much for the player's sake as Albion's.
Robson refused to reveal whether the 26-year-old will keep his place for Sunday's visit of Newcastle (ko 4pm) but did confirm he was in his squad.
The Hawthorns manager said: "Ina's overall performance at Fulham was very, very good.
"It wasn't just the goal, it was his overall contribution: how he tracked runners and the way he tackled and passed the ball.
"It was a very good all-round midfield performance.
"But it can't just be a one-off.
"Not just for this football club or myself, but also from Ina's point of view because he's got a World Cup to look forward to.
"If he can keep performing like that on a consistent basis, he's going to put himself right in the fore for a place in the Japan team."
Robson is delighted the former Arsenal loan signing has taken his words of advice on board.
"It was more than a month ago when I told Ina about things he needs to improve on in his game," he added.
"He's worked hard in training and, to be fair to Ina, he put everything into his game on Tuesday."
Meanwhile, Robson has warned his defenders they will be facing one of the best forward lines around when Graeme Souness' side arrive in the Black Country.
The Albion chief believes Alan Shearer's newly-formed strikeforce with the Toon's £16million record signing Michael Owen has all the makings of a deadly double act.
"As the season goes on, they will be one of the best partnerships," said Robson.
"Alan, with the injuries he's had and the age he is, perhaps isn't the force he used to be but with his knowledge and experience he is still a real handful and a driving force for Newcastle.
"Michael will reap the benefits from playing off Alan."

Junichi Inamoto has pledged to fight for a regular place in the West Bromwich Albion side to cement his World Cup place with Japan this summer.
Baggies manager Bryan Robson insists Inamoto has every chance of achieving both goals if he continues to perform like he did in his match-winning show for the Baggies against former club Fulham in the Carling Cup at Craven Cottage.

Former Arsenal midfielder Inamoto, who arrived at Highbury in a blaze of publicity four years ago but never played a Premiership game for the Gunners, struck a stunning extra-time winner to seal the Baggies’ 3-2 third round triumph.

“I am aiming now to play as many games as possible for West Brom in World Cup year,” he said.

“I know it will mean a lot of hard work because we have some fine players in the squad but I was delighted to make one goal for Rob Earnshaw and score another for the team against Fulham and hope I have done enough to be noticed.”

Inamoto, 26, left Arsenal at the end of the 2001/02 season to join Fulham, where he he made 41 appearances over two seasons and scored a hat-trick in an Intertoto Cup final.

He moved on again when the Cottagers would not pay his Japanese club Gamba Osaka to keep him.

He made only three appearances for Albion last season but following an ankle injury was loaned out to Cardiff. And after returning to The Hawthorns this season he was selected for the opening game of the season against Manchester City.

But until Tuesday night he had made only one further appearance as a substitute against Chelsea and wanted to go on loan again and stay sharp for the world’s biggest tournament, in Germany next year.

But now Robson, who described Inamoto’s performance at Craven Cottage as “outstanding”, is hopeful the midfielder has finally adapted to the demands of the English game.

Robson said: “For me that’s his best game since I’ve been here. He did very well against a Fulham midfield with Steed Malbranque and Sylvain Legwinski, which is pretty good.

“We spoke about lapses of concentration and things which he had to put right and in this match he put it all in. I’m delighted he’s taken it on board.

“I can’t consider sending him out on loan again. I’ve got a squad of players who are still in the cup and have some important league matches coming up.

"I can understand his concerns. With a World Cup in summer he needs to impress his manager but on that performance against Fulham he can definitely do that.”

Inamoto, who has over 60 caps for Japan, may get his chance again on Sunday with Kanu (hamstring), Diomansy Kamara (ankle ligaments), and Darren Carter (knee) all doubtful for the home game with Newcastle United.

２季前まで稲本が在籍していたフラムのキーン・コーチは「彼を封じるために中盤の選手を代えたが、だめだった。今日の稲本は素晴らしかった」と脱帽。２６日付の英各紙も日本人ＭＦを絶賛し、「デイリー・ミラー」紙は「ジュンイチのロケット弾が（フラム監督の）コールマンを粉砕した」と大見出しで伝えた。

リーグ戦ではここ７試合連続でベンチから外れている稲本だが、２６日にクラブ公式ＨＰで「結果を残せたし、日曜日（３０日・ニューカッスル戦）はチャンスをもらいたい」と強気のコメント。代表の東欧遠征時には「Ｗ杯イヤーで試合に出られない状況が続くのは、すごくまずい」と危機感を募らせていたが、“ラストチャンス”を見事にものにした。
