東寺へ (Visiting Toji temple)

最近は春も麗で、車でついと出かけたくなる季節ですね。
海外で車に乗ってなかったこともあり、ちょっと飛ばしたかったので、
週末にちょうどいい距離にある京都まで行ってました。

以前から横を通るだけで訪れたことが無かった東寺へ。
五重塔だけかと思っていたら、金堂など意外と見所満載？
境内も落ち着いた独特の雰囲気で、とぉってもリラックス♪
春の特別拝観も行われていて、ちょっとお得なプチ旅行でした。^^

We feel spring has almost come to Kansai-area, making me drive to Kyoto last weekend.
The vacant time while I was in Europe drove me to go by car there.

Toji temple is one of the major touristy places in Kyoto;
I often drove by but had never visited there.
Its Gojyunoto (the tower with five floors with roofs, shown above) is
very famous in Japan and is actually awesome!
Plus, there are also other histrical monuments such as Kondo;
I was amazed with that.
The atmosphere made me relaxed and feel like zen.^^
These days they give special offers that can allow you to enter the monuments which are not normally open.
So, it's good time to visit there now!

ロンドンのインド料理 （Mela in London city)

しかし、イギリスの名物料理と言えば、今や中華料理とインド料理。
ロンドンには中華街などもありますが、ザガットにも出ていたインド料理店、
「メラ」に行ってみました。

店内もスタイリッシュでなんかお洒落ですが、ここのランチは美味しくて値段が安い！
このセットが一番高いものですが、それでも6ポンド（1,200円）くらい。
パン、カレーも種類が選べて、味も洗練されている。
いやー、ここはモダン・ブリティッシュを味わうということで、
旅行者にもオススメですね。^^

Now that British cuisine is represented by Chinese and Indian one.
You can find China town in London; but I tried "Mela," the restaurant
that is rated on Zagat survey in London.

The interior is very stylish and cool; on the other hand,
lunch is very delicious and reasonable!
The dish above costs only 6 pound less, but you can choose bread types and curries.
This restaurant is really worth visiting when you are in London
to experience real London, even if you are tourists, I think.

ガストロ・パブ （Gastro Pub）

食事がまずいことで有名なイギリスですが、
最近は美味しい食事を出すパブも多いとか。

知り合いが紹介していたここ、「ザ・カウ」もそんなパブ。
生のカキとギネスのセットで１０ポンド（2,000円）くらい。
新鮮なカキ、おいしゅうございました。(_ _)

The UK is famous for its meal (badly...),
they have lots of gastro pubs that serve delicious meals.

The Cow, a pub that my friends introduced,
is also one of those gastro pubs.
I really enjoyed eating fresh oysters and a pint of Guiness with about 10 pounds.

リスボン（Lisbon）

リスボンは取り立てて有名な観光スポットはありませんが、
美味しい食事と美しい街並みに陽気な太陽と、
のんびりするにはいい所だと思います。

地下鉄、ケーブルカーなど交通も便利で、住民の気分で旅できますが、
欧州はやはりレンタカーがいいですね。もちろん、トムトムも一緒に。

最終日は展望台にのぼり、去り行く休暇を思いながら、
夕焼けの街を眺めてみたり・・・^^
また遊びに来たいと思います。

Lisbon doesn't have a lot of famous touristy places,
but is good place to eat delicious meals, enjoy beautiful city and sun,
and relax yourself.

Public transportaions such as subway and cable car are very useful to tourists, making them feel like residents.
But it would be better to travel by car, of course with TomTom.^^

Going to viewpoint and looking back to past,
I watched over the city of Lisbon under sunset...
Definitely would come back again.

ユーラシア大陸西端 （West end of Eurasia)

リスボンに来たのなら、ここに来ないと。^^
リスボンから列車で40分のシントラまで行き、そこから更にバスで40分。
やって来ました、西の果て～。もう目の前は大西洋です。

周辺の植物なども独特の形をしていて、なんだか地の果てに来た感覚いっぱい♪
大西洋の水平線を眺めながら、しばし物思い・・・( ~o~)

If you had a chance to visit Lisbon, you should be here: Cobo de Roca, the west end of Eurasia.
It takes 40 min. by train from Lisbon to Sintra and another 40 min. by bus to get there from Sintra.
All you can see west is the Atlantic ocean.

Weeds around are so unique that I could feel I was at the end of Eurasia.
Looking over the horizon, I thought over my life...

ポルトガル上陸！ (Standing on Portugal)

朝３時起きのスケジュールで、４日目は初のポルトガル上陸！
降り立つと、なんか雰囲気がラテン（笑）。
気候のせいもあるでしょうが、南仏やスペインなどと同じ感覚はどうも心地よいですなぁ。

だが、先ずは最初のホテルでつまづく。
ネットで格安サイトを使って予約してたら、
受付に「この値段は間違いだ」と言われて拒否される。(ToT)
確かに高級ホテル？で半額だったので予約時に驚いたんだけど、
それを僕のせいにされてもねぇ・・・

文句言ってると、1人増えて、「お、支配人来たか？」と思ってたら、その人も同じせりふ。
デポジットも返さないとか言っていたけど、まだ粘って交渉してたら、しばらくして
「支配人がＯＫと言ったので、その値段でいいです」とのこと。
早く最初からそうしろよ・・・

ま、そんなこんなでややブルーな気持ちで観光開始。
最初はリスボン市西部のベレンへ。
ケーブルカーに揺られて来たここは、世界遺産にも指定されている地域。
大航海時代を思わせるモニュメントもあり、ポルトガルの歴史を垣間見た気がします。

それにしても、どこもかしこもポルトガル語（当たり前ですが）。
お初だったのでややとまどいましたが、やはり英語で結構なんとかなる。
観光地だったら英語があれば、やはり楽ですねぇ。^^

After getting up at 3am, I visited Portugal on 4th day.
My first impression was "Feels like Latin." ^^
Lisbon looks like Provence/France and Spain; those areas really relax me.

However, I had a trouble at checking in a hotel that I researved through Internet booking site.
Reception clerk denied my researvation at first saying it was a mistake for me to book at half a price of the hotel.
To tell the truth, I was surprised at the rate when booking;
however, it was not my fault.
So, I insisted on their accepting the fact.

I got another person who was not a manager; he also said the same words...
After all, they finally accepted my demand after discussin with their boss.
I thought they should have done so since the beginning...

Anyway, I changed my mind and went to the west side of Lisbon, Belem,
which locates in the area known as one of the world heritages in Portugal.
There is the monument about the age of geographical discovery;
I couldn't help being impressed with their accomplishments.

Although the official language in Portugal is Portuguese which I am unfamiliar with,
I could manage mostly with English only.
Yeah, English is really helpful...

シカゴ （CHICAGO）

3日目はロンドンへ戻り、昼はマチネでミュージカル「シカゴ」を鑑賞。
映画で1度観てましたが、やはり舞台はいいですね。
取れた席がしかも一番前！だったので、演者の息遣いまで聞こえてきそう。
迫力ある舞台に大満足でした！

そして、夜は偶然参加することになった、Inseadの友人の誕生会へ。
知らない人もたくさんいましたが、Inseadの同級生もたくさん参加していて、
なかなか会えない人達と久しぶりの会話を楽しみました。
そこで経済の話が出るのは、やはりＭＢＡだからですかね・・・^^;

友人には浴衣をプレゼント。コスプレ好きな彼はかなり喜んでた様子で何よりです。

また、グループメイトだったオーストラリア人にも会うことができましたが、
彼は7月に日本へ来るとか。会う機会をもてればいいのですが。

The next day, I returned to London to watch matine, "CHICAGO," and join my friend's birthday party.

I have once watched "CHICAGO" on the movie, but the musical was different, maybe much better.
Especially, the seat was front row; so I could feel players' breaths.
I was really satisfied with it!

Then I joined party and had fun with my Insead friends there!
There were maybe over 20 Inseaders, most of whom were really surprised to see me. ^^
We talked about our recent issues, other friends, and economy...yeah, we are MBAs...

I presented Yukata, Japanese summer style of Kimono; he seemed really happy, making me happy, too.
(He likes to wear different costumes.)

I happened to meet one of my groupmates at Insead;
he plans to visit Japan this July.
I hope we could meet again in Tokyo!

9 3/4番線 （Platform 9 3/4）

ロンドンへ帰ったときのキングズ・クロス駅で、
ハリー・ポッターでおなじみの9 3/4番線をパチリ。

まだまだ観光客を集めている様子でした。^^

ケンブリッジ訪問 （Visiting Cambs）

2日目の夜は、友人達に会いにケンブリッジへ。
もう3回目なので、地図が無くてもそれなりには歩ける街でしたが、
中心部の様変わりにはちょっと驚き。
建設中だったものがどんどん出来上がっていました。

ケムでは、大学の同期の研究員、会社の留学仲間、Inseadの同期、と
色々な人と飲んで、しゃべって、旧交を温めてきました。
皆、なかなか大変な様子。
こちらも少し勇気をもらい、帰国後への糧としてきました。^^

2nd night was in Cambridge, the city where a lot of my friends live.
This was my 3rd visit to Cambs; developing city surprised me in terms of its change since I visited before.

I met a resercher at Cambs Univ. who is my friend at university,
MBA colleagues at my company, and a friend at Insead,
drinking and chatting with them.
It seemed that everybody has fun there but some problems.
I was encouraged by their challenging spirits to go forward. ^^

サヴィル・ロウ （Savile Row)

ロンドンも既に４回目？くらいですが、
これまで行かなかったところにも足を運んでみたり。

背広の語源ともなった、仕立て屋の通り、サヴィル・ロウに行ってみました。
思ったより質素な感じでしたが、通りを歩いている紳士の服装などを見ると、
やはり、本場なのかも？と感じたり。

1番地のギーブズ・アンド・ホークスで仕立ててみたかったんですが、
『オーダーは８００ポンドから』とか書いているのを見て、すごすごと退散・・・
いずれは欲しいなぁ・・・

This may be the 4th time of my stay in London.

I visited Savile Row, the origin of the name of SEBIRO, japanese name of a suit.
It looks simpler but gents walking along the street appeared real.^^
Yeah, here is the tailer's street in the world.

I wanted to have a new suit tailered at Gieves and Hawks;
but it said "The order is from 800 pounds..."
Of course, I walked out of the shop immediately...

Hope I would be able to afford it sometime.
