ミュンヘン (Munich)

で、最後に最近映画の舞台にもなったミュンヘンへ。

新市庁舎やモダン・ピナコテーク（現代美術館）などを観光しましたが、
やはり印象深かったのはソーセージとビール！
写真はヒトラーも集会を行ったとされる旧ビール醸造所、
ホーフブロイハウスです。

今では夜はすっかりビアガーデンと化し、夜の11時以降でも
ごらんの様に皆が皆ビールをかっくらっていました。
で、そのジョッキの標準サイズはなんと１リットル！
さすがビールの都だけはありますね。

Finally, we visited Munich which recently became the subject of a movie.

We, of course, visited touristy places such as new city hall and pinakothek der Moderne.
However, speaking of Munich, we should experience its famous Sausage and Beer!
The picture above is one of the major brewery where even Hitler once
had held a meeting: the Hofbrauhaus.

Now it has become just a beer garden at night;
even after 11 pm, a lot of people enjoyed drinking beers with music there.
The standard size of glass is 1L!
That's by far more than that in Japan...

ノイシュバンシュタイン城 (Neuschwanstein Castle)

と言うわけで、車での旅から列車での旅へと切り替えて、
２日目は一気にフュッセンまで南下。
今回の目玉であるノイシュバンシュタイン城を訪ねました。

中にも入りましたが、ガイドツアーで大勢で見学するところや、
やけに近代的に修復されたところなどがどうも
ディズニーランドみたいでなんかアトラクションぽかったです。

ですが、外見や見晴らしは最高！
天気も途中から良くなって、大満足でした。^^

Then, we changed the transportation from car to train,
traveling southbound to Fussen and visiting Neuschwanstein castle.

Inside was not so impressive as I expected.
Additionally, the issues such as:
- guiding tour in a large group
- a lot of interiors/parts are restored with modern technology
reminded us of some kind of entertainment attraction
like Disneyland...

However, the exterior and the scenery from castle were great!
With good weather, I was really satisfied with this visit.

男２人ロマンティック街道の旅 (Die Romantische Strasse)

北はヴュルツブルグを起点に、南はフュッセンに至るまで、
世界的にも有名なドイツのロマンティック街道へ先週末は行ってました。

ナビ片手にミュンヘン空港でフォルクスワーゲン・ポロを借り、
・アウグスブルク（なんと紀元前15年から存在！）
・ネルトリンゲン（世界史などで出てきた円形の街）
・ローテンブルグ（ドイツ観光の目玉！）
・フュッセン（アルプス麓、ノイシュバンシュタイン城へすぐ）
を回ってくる・・・予定でしたが・・・いろいろと波乱万丈の旅でした。

まずはレンタカー。
・何度やってもすぐエンスト（←1stと3rdの区別がつかなかっただけでした）
・ライトはどう点ける？（←なんとか判明）
・サイドミラーの操作は？（←これも時期判明）
・ガソリンは？（←聞きそびれました・・・で？）
などの問題に見舞われつつ、
とりあえずアウグスブルクとネルトリンゲンを制覇。
で、車でヴュルツブルグへ向かっている途中に・・・

警察に捕まり、しばらく拘束されました・・・（泣）

理由はスピード違反でもなんでもなく、
・僕の日本の運転免許証不携帯（国際免許は持ってましたが）
・友人の仏ビザ不所持（これは不要だと思いますが）
で、検事が罰金を請求するからお金はいくら持ってるか？だの、
車は乗れないから置いていけ！だの、言われつつ、
運転免許はともかく、友人のビザは不法連行だと思われるので、
２人でむかつきつつも反論を続けてました。
で、結局、運転免許の件のみで立件され、開放されたのですが、
後日罰金を請求されるかもしれないとのこと。
ただ、レンタカーのほうは多額の追加請求はなさそうなので、
まぁ、あとは行く末を見守るだけですね。。。
尋問中？にも言いましたが、ちょっと連行内容について、
在ドイツ日本大使館にコンタクトをとってみるつもりです。

で、車を失った僕らは結局その街に宿泊。
不幸中の幸いか、観光名所のローテンブルクだったので、
夜は中央広場（写真）でやけ食い＆やけ酒でしたね。

We visited the world-famous Romantic Street which starts from
Wurzburg to Fussen last week.

With GPS navigations system and VW Poro, we planned to visit:
- Augsburg (existing since 15 B.C.!)
- Nordlingen (city within circular wall)
- Rothenburg (major touristy spot in Germany)
- Fussen (at the foot of Alpes, next to Neuschwanstein castle)
but...

First of all, we had in trouble with rent-a-car:
- hard to start properly (I was starting with 3rd gear...)
- not knowing how to turn the light on (found soon...)
- not knowing how to adjust side mirror (found soon...)
- what kind of gasoline to be filled? (finally...)
Although we had a little hard time to solve those problems,
we successfully visited Augsburg and Nordlingen,
then when going to Wurzburg on Autobahn...

We were arrested by Police and taken to Police station!

The reason was not speeding, but:
- Not holding Japanese driver's license (for me)
- Not holding French VISA (for my friend)
Then, we were said:
- How much money do you have? (as prosecuter would charge fine with us)
- Leave our rent-a-car at the police station.
and so on...
As we believed that my friend did not have to have French VISA to stay in EU countries within 3 months,
we argued that point, negotiating in a tough manner.
Though policemen did not change their opinions,
my friend did not have to be charged fines as we insisted.
We were freed only with my fault but had to leave our car there.
However, as I was not convinced by their argument with my friend's issue,
I plan to contact with Japanese embassy in Germany soon.

Anyway, although we had to stay in the city,
fortunately it was Rothenburg, one of the cities we'd like to visit.
We tried to mitigate our frustlation with eating and drinking a lot there...

ロワールの古城訪問 (Old castles in Loire region)

うーん、どうも最近は旅行ネタが多いですなぁ（以前から？）。

先日は日本から友人が来ていたので、車でFontainebleauとLoireを案内しました。
で、行ったのはシャンボール城とブロワ城（＋フォンテーヌブロー宮殿）。

フォンティの宮殿も大したものだと思っていましたが、
シャンボール城は規模がそれ以上！
敷地はパリ市内に匹敵するとか？
どうりでなかなか辿り着けませんでした・・・

２重螺旋階段などをしっかりチェックしつつ、
『ここでかくれんぼしたら見つからないだろうなぁ・・・』
とかそういうことを考えていたり。^^;

ともかく、友人達にも満足してもらえたようでなによりでした。

Recently I've been writing only on traveling...

Anyway, with friends from Japan, we visited old castles in Loire region:
(These are also world heritages.)
Chambord castle and Blois one.

I thought that the castle in Fonteinebleau was really awesome,
but Chambord castle was also great, maybe more.
The size of its area seems to be as big as Paris.
We took several minutes from entrance to chateau...

While watching double helix stairs and so on,
I thought that it would be fun but tough to play hide and seek here...

I was glad to know that my friends were happy to visit there.

ブルゴーニュ・ワイン畑ツアー (Wine cave tour in Bourgorgne)

そして最後を飾るのはブルゴーニュでのワイン畑ツアー！
ニュイ・サン・ジョルジュ、ヴォーヌ・ロマネ、ジュブレイ・シャンベルタンなど
名立たる生産地を巡るツアーに参加してきました。

ミュジニー、エシュゾー、シャンベルタンなど涎が出そうな畑を巡り、
参加した４人の日本人の中で１人興奮していました（苦笑）。
写真は有名なロマネ・コンティ（左）とリシュブール（右）の畑です。

そして帰りにはボーヌ市内のワイン酒屋で
・ジャイエ・ジル
・フィリップ・パカレ
・メオ・カミュゼ
といった有名なドメーヌ（造り手）のワインをごっそり購入♪
・・・とそこでなんと1996年のエマニュエル・ルジェの
クロ・パラントゥを発見！！！（540ユーロ/本だそうです・・・）
オーナーの話では、これもアンリ・ジャイエが陰で造っていた？とか？
（『神の雫』第２巻では1999年が登場しています）
あー、もう二度とはお目にかかれないかもなぁ・・・

The last visit of this journey was wine cave tour in Bourgogne!
We visited some of world famous caves:
Nuit-St-Georges, Vosne-Romanee, and Gevrey-Chambertin etc.

I was only excited for a lot of famous caves which produces Musigny, Echezeaux, and Chambertin among 4 Japanese participants...
The picture above is the field producing Romane-Conti (left) and Richebourg (right).

After the tour, I bought wines produced by
- Jayer Gilles
- Philippe Pacalet
- Meo Camuzet
(I am very satisfied with this combination)

...and I found 10 bottles of Cros Parantoux by Emmanuel Rouget (1996)!
(It costs 540 euros per bottle...)
The owner said that these wines were also produced by Henri Jayer!
Maybe I will never see them again...wanna drink just for a glass...

エビアン汲んできて！ (Visiting Evian）

昔某番組で某Hちゃんがわざわざ水汲みにやってきてたのが、ここエビアン。^^
実はレ・マン湖の辺にある高級リゾート地です。

まぁ折角近くに来たと言うことで、とりあえずエビアン汲みに行ってきました（写真）。
近所の人はエビアン飲み放題のようです・・・羨ましい・・・

Some people might remember watching the TV programme
in which a talent visited Evian to fill a bottle with Evian water.
Evian is famous for its mineral water brand,
but the town itself is one of the high-grade resorts in France.

As we visited the south of lake Leman, we went to Evian
in order to fill my bottle with Evian water. (see above)
It seems that residents in Evian can drink as much Evian as possible...

モンブラン (Mont Blanc)

リヨンで１泊した後、車を飛ばして今度はアルプスの麓、
シャモニーを訪れました。

と言うのも、約８年前に天候不順で見れなかったモンブランを見るためです。
幸い、天気も良く、麓でチーズフォンデュとオムレツを堪能した後、
3842mのエギュイユ・ディ・ミディ山頂までロープウェイで上がり、
ようやくモンブラン(4812m、中央）を見ることが出来ました。
８年越しの悲願、いやー、感動です（笑）。

山頂は空気が薄く、２人とも疲れていたのか、昼飯時に飲んだビールのせいか、
すぐに軽い高山病になりそうになったので、すぐに下山しました。
が、晴れ渡る空の下、モンブランを間近に見れたことはいい思い出となりました。

Staying a night in Lyon, we drove to Chamonix, the foot of Alpes.

The purpose to visit Chamonix was to see Mont-Blanc,
the highest mountain in Europe that I could not see
due to bad weather when I came here about 8 years ago.
Fortunately, we could enjoy blue sky and climb up to the 3812m altitude,
the top of Aiguille du Midi through ropeway,
finally seeing Mont-Blanc (4812m, middle of picture above).
My dream had come true in 8 years. ^^

Maybe because of tiredness or beer at lunch,
we got a little sick at the high altitude with less oxygen;
so we went down soon but this was a precious experience for me.

美食の街 リヨン (The city of gourmet, Lyon)

そしてブルゴーニュを通り過ぎて、美食の街、リヨンを訪ねました。

フランス第２の都市であると同時に、ミシュラン３つ星レストランが
数多くあふれる美食の街でもあります。
実際、３つ星レストランの姉妹店で夕食を味わいましたが、
食事、ワイン共に大満足でした。

それよりも印象的だったのは、街の雰囲気がとてもいいこと。
のんびりしてて、清潔で、適度に近代的で、飯も美味くて。^^
住むにはとてもいいところだと感じましたね。

ちなみに旧市街はこれまた世界遺産に登録されています。
フランス・ルネッサンスの一大中心地であり、
紀元前1世紀のローマ時代にも栄えていたというリヨン。
また訪れてみたい都市の１つとなりました。

Then, we visited Lyon after passing through Bourgogne.

Lyon is very famous for its reputation with delicious cuisine,
with a lot of 3 star restaurants.
We enjoyed dinner at 2nd restaurant of 3 star one;
it was really good dinner and we were really satisfied with them and wine.

However, the most impressive thing I felt was city itself.
Clean, moderately modern, very relaxed and delicious foods.
I think it is a good idea to live in Lyon.

FYI, Old Lyon is also one of the world heritages.
Lyon was one of the central cities of French Renaissance
and also prospered in 100 B.C.;
it has become one of the cities I'd like to visit again.

フォントネー修道院 (Abbaye de Fontenay)

どうも学業ネタが少ない気もしますが・・・
今週も旅ネタです。^^;

先週は木曜から土曜にかけて、ブルゴーニュとローヌ・アルプを
ウォートンから来ている友人と２人でドライブ旅行してきました。
幸い、最初は悪かった天気も後に晴れて、快適な旅行となりましたね。

最初に訪れたのはフォントネー修道院。
シトー会の修道院としては世界最古で、世界遺産にも登録されています。
修道院ということで造りはとても質素でしたが、静かで厳かな空間に
ちょっと普段の生活を忘れて浸ってしまいました。^^

Feel like writing everything but MBA per se these days...
Anyway, I will describe my travel last weekend hereafter.

As we had no classes from last Thursday to Sunday,
we, a friend of mine from Wharton and I,
visited Bourgorgne and Rhone Alpes by car last weekend.
Although it was raining Thursday morning, it became better afterwards.

We at first visited the Abbaye de Fontenay,
the Cistercian Abbey known as one of the world heritages in France.
Its structure was so simple and solemn that I could be soaked in the atmosphere for a while,
forgetting the daily life.

中南米ウィーク （Semana Latina）

と言うわけで、先週に引き続き、今週は中南米ウィークです。
ボサノバ演奏やカルトクイズなどが行われていますが、
今夜のラストを飾ったのは、そう、カポエラ！

手に手錠をつけられた奴隷が編み出した格闘技がルーツだそうですが、
今では逆に相手に当てると下手な証拠。
すっかりとスポーツ化されているようです。

それにしてもここフォンティにどうやらカポエラチームがいるらしく、
本格的なカポエラを間近で見ることが出来ました♪
ビデオも撮ったんですが、重すぎてYoutubeにアップできず・・・残念・・・

こういうものを体験できるのもInseadならではだと思います。^^

Following the Britain/Irish week, we have a Semana Latina this week.
Some events such as cult quiz and bossa nova concert are being held;
and the main event tonight was Capoeira show!

Capoeira has its root in the martial arts developed by slabes who
had to have their hands tied.
However, now that it has become one of the sports;
you cannot hit your feet to the others now.

One surprise was that it seems that there is a capoeira team in Fonty.
Thanks to them, we could enjoy watching REAL CAPOEIRA here at Insead.
I recorded the live capoeira, but could not upload the file on Youtube due to its size...

We can easily enjoy this kind of cultural things here at Insead.
I think this is one of the merits to come to Insead!
