On July 5, an open roundtable discussion was held in Osaka with totally four males and female, who fled N. Korea due to human rights oppression and financial hardship.
This was the 1st time for any of them to give a lecture in Japan.
They said that oppression by the authorities and hunger were commonplace, and that "even possible to study feels like a dream."
The event was co-hosted by Japanese and S. Korean human rights organizations that support N. Korean defectors and separated families.

On July 5, the government kicked off a public call for applications for support under the \1 trillion "Space Strategy Fund" system, that will support space technology development by private companies and universities.
JAXA (* Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), which established the fund, will act as the overall coordinator, and recipients will be selected as early as within FY2024, while taking the government's implementation policy into consideration.

Based on the governmental space technology strategy, totally 22 themes -- broadly divided into three areas that "transportation," "satellites" and "exploration" -- are subject to the program.
Of them, five themes have begun public calls for applications -- building a communications network that links together a large number of small satellites, technology for exploring water resources on the moon, etc.
The remaining themes will be open to public calls for applications in due course.
At a press briefing on July 5, Minister of State for Space Policy Sanae Takaichi stated that "We look forward to proactive and enthusiastic proposals from a wide range of persons."
