Ichiro started the season slowly -- well, slowly by his standards -- hitting .287 in April before getting hot at the plate in May (.371) and June (.386). He's already had hitting streaks of 18 and 20 games this season.

Japanese international midfielder and national superstar Hidetoshi Nakata said Monday he will retire from professional soccer after a decade on the pitch in Japan, Italy and England.
Twice voted Asia's player of the year, Nakata gained superstar status in Japan as a key playmaker for the national team, scoring 11 goals in 77 appearances. His flashy attire and cool demeanor also made him a media darling.
Nakata joined English club Bolton in August last year from seven years in Italy's Serie A, where he played with Roma, Parma, Bologna and Fiorentina. He was the first Japanese football player to play for a major European team.

海外でもプレーし、日本ではスーパースターだった。

中田とイチローの共通点

孤高、が最もふさわしいし、人気もあるのだが、二人とも、何かわからないが、人間として最も必要なものが欠けている、といつも感じている。
イチローと松井を比べると良くわかる。
中田のサッカーのライバルは誰だろう。小野は人間的すぎて、本当のヒーローになれなかった。


中田引退

一番覚えているのは、シドニーオリンピックで、中田がPKを外し、日本が敗れたこと。その後は、確かに中田は活躍はしたが、海外の所属チームではジリ貧になり、日本代表だけの中田だった。
今後も海外のチームでは活躍は望めないし、プライドが高くて、いまさら日本には戻れない。となると、引退しか道は残されていなかった、というのが本音だと思う。
タイミングは最高だった。惜しまれながら辞めるのも、一つの生き方。
これからが人生の正念場。
