後半アイスランドはとにかく守り、攻撃的選手を２人も守備的選手に代えてしまった。まあそういう策もあるだろうが、今回は甘かった。
アイスランドは全員自陣で守っていた。０－０を狙ってくる試合ほど崩すのが難しいものはない。しかしそれをこじ開けたのがスペイン代表の実力だった。

Q: Thank you very much. John, Steve, hello. Could I start with you, John, do you feel perhaps the players maybe owe Steve McClaren result tomorrow?
JT: I think so, I said that last game you know we owe it to the manager the way we performed we build up today, we lost game we underperformed a little bit. Certainly coming into this game, it's mustwin game and we certainly feel as a bunch of players that you know we owe it to the manager.
Q: Are you stunned by the criticism that being of a manager and a team?
JT: Yeah, I mean hardly obvious much myself to me. I hardly obvious what's been said and what's been said, group of players, we are fully behind the manager, it's not nice what we hearing but he's the right man for the job 100%. Stevie back me up and -as I said-we are puttin' in performance tomorrow night for the manager.
Q: What's the strategy tomorrow do you think?
JT: It's just a mustwin game, for the three points game, nothing else is not about the performance now I said after the game of the night, you know for - now it's not about performances, we need three points in every single game.
Q: What a level of victory do you think would be acceptable obviously acceptable by the fans and media?
JT: I'm not too sure --I've seen and heard how frustration after the draw in Israel, you know it's nice for them to chant long while and paid a lot good money fare to come and see us play, for the players, obviously thay were disappinted we are today as well. But you know the level of performance they lookin' forward to see a good performance and few goals in a minutes we are all looking forward to see few goals I see back in the net.
Q: Steven, 2-nil after thirteen minutes at Old Trafford when you played Andorra before you got the second of those, I mean that exactly you are the kind of star you could do it tomorrow isn't it?
SG: Yeah, definitely I think when you comin' up again, stop position like Andorra(アンドーラと発音する。ディアラもディアーラだもんね）respect to the fair -will be- you know more appreciate - makes it more easy than last game. Q: Not always said about the midfield pairing, yourself and Frank Lampard I know you said it before, but just talk through the way you feel it, it works?
SG: I think obviously know that is the decision of the manager, the manager picks whatever the best midfielder,best shooter I can't really say much more whatever the manager ask me to do,-in the visionly outside -they give the best stauff doin best performance for team - Steven McClaren's way he wants every match he wants me to do.
Q: Wayne Rooney is another player in the spot light as Israel, is there worried he hasn't scored a competitive goals than Euro 2004, I know his performance has been terrific, but in case people is expecting goal to him in this moment.
SG: Well I think the most important thing is you know Wayne knows himself, he needs goals. We appreciate Wayne more than he gained goals, he does works for the team really hard for the team, and he's one of the first name on the team sheet, we love playing with him. we are back Wayne, I'll be extra hard trying you know play for Manchester United selecter supply.

嗚呼、イングランド。その３
イングランド戦、ようやくまともに見ました。
感想としては、いや～イスラエルよくやったなと。
やっぱ戦略勝ちか。
徹底的に守ってた。
ホームに世界最高レベルのタレント軍団の憧れのイングランド選手団を迎えるのだから、気合の入り方が違う。それはお客さんも同様。
イスラエルのディフェンダーは体も大きいし、何よりキーパーが秀逸だった。
私が個人的に思ったのは、キャプテンはジェラードにした方がいいのではないかということ。やっぱあのベッカムの再来を望むとしたら…熱い、熱すぎるスピリットがないとだめでしょう。
スティーヴンにはそれがある。
ジェラード、ランパードの併用がだめだとは私は思わなかった。2人のホットラインもけっこうあったし。
惜しいチャンスは2回ともランパードのシュートだった。
フォワードのコンビとしてはルーニーの相手は「ダイバー」アンディじゃないな。タレントが違いすぎる。ルーニーは一つ下から飛び出していく感じのFWなんだよ。トップに張っててどかんではない。
個人的に一番おもしろかったのは、ルーニーとタル・ベン・ハイームの「ボルトンVSマンU代理戦争」イエロー出されるまで、「なんだよ～おらあ～」「そっちこそ、んだ～？」をやめないんだもん。まったく男って（ガキ）…。でもね、フォワードはこのくらいでないとダメなんです。男の子はちょっと悪いぐらいがちょうどいいんです。
それからベン・サハールが出てきて時間が短いためシュートにつながるプレーがなかったのは残念だったが、テリーがベンに迫って、ベンが「うおおお～テリーさんが来た～」っていうのが。やりにくいでしょうねえ。「隊長」ににらまれたら。
よかった選手はイスラエルのベナユン。それからイングランドのアーロン・レノン。アーロンは文字通り「一人で」がんばっていました。左サイド崩しまくりで、球が前に出ないもんで結局彼にばっかりパスしてて。
それにフィル・ネヴィルやキャラガーはタレント不足だということが証明されたかも。アンドラ戦ではアシュリーが出られるしだね。
大丈夫。あしたのアンドラ戦は５－０でイングランドが勝ちますから。アンドラに2点以上取れなかったらもうイングランド代表、監督含めて全員解散したほうがいいもん。
映画でも最初の5分で名作か駄作かわかるもんです。マクラーレン監督ももうそろそろいいんではないでしょうかね。サー・アレックスに兼任してもらったらどうでしょうかね。まじで。

案の定と言うか何と言うか。イングランドのマスコミは相当スゴイことになってます。
テルアビブに駆けつけたサポーターが
「無能の監督」と大合唱し、
イングランドはマクラーレン解任ムードにあふれている。
一方マクラーレンは
「こうなったら大物プレーヤーをはずす。でもその名前は今言うことじゃない。」
それに対しマスコミは、

JM: 私はカルーとロッベンをベンチにおいていました。延長戦になった場合のために備えていたのです。でもシェヴァのゴールがすべてを吹っ飛ばしてしまいました。
-このゴールはシェフチェンコのセリエAでのもっとも有名な、サン・シーロでのユベントス戦でのゴールになぞらえられる。これも同じような、シュートを撃つと思えないような位置からのシュートだったのだ。
JM:（こういった声に賛同しながらも）シェヴァは今までのキャリアで多くのゴールを上げているので、ほかにベストなゴールがいくつも挙げられるだろう。でもこのゴールがシェヴァのチェルシーでのベスト・ゴールであることは間違いない。すばらしいゴールであると同時に貴重なゴールでもあった。
JM:シェヴァはゴールをまだ量産しているとは言えないが、（チャンピオンズリーグの）ポルト戦でのゴールは貴重なもので、この試合でのゴールもまた貴重なものだった。シェヴァはチェルシーに適応しているしプレーを楽しんでいるようだ。
