Complexity of Human beings
In shortly speaking about evolution of life, there are changes that the complexities of living forms are gradually increasing with the combination of the functions and the organizations. It has irreversibly been complicating during a long time, and it is a flow, which has leaded to the intellectual life of human beings. The present human species is the most complex life form on the Earth. Why could it create a tremendously complicated system called a human being in the evolution? Even if it takes a long time that it gradually become complicated, how could it move against entropy, contrary to the common sense of modern science? Moreover, since we cannot see any signs that this movement will stop at this point, the trend of becoming more complicated will continue in future. Perhaps not only individual biochemistry or physiological mechanisms will become complicated, but also social organizations, science technology created by human beings will become complicated as well.
Now, we can observe the signs of becoming complicated in society, those are, we have found surveillance systems in cities, eavesdropping in every life, and we are suffering in the Internet from threats of viruses and hackers. The development of science will increase the possibility of new pathogens by genetic manipulation. Increasing confusion due to diversification of society and personal values, it will also cause mental illness such as autism and personality disorder to increase. It seems impossible for social organizations that everyone is fair and satisfied by anyone. Now that educating children has left to their parents, if there are any problems with their teaching methods, the children will be at risk of disrupting personality in social turmoil. How can we respond to social complications so that children will be able to grow the skill that adapts the complexity of society except becoming indecisive? In the future, we must endure in various difficulties caused by diversification of value due to complexity.
However, considering the way that life has followed, it is certainly a way to overcome it somehow, even if the current situation is in confusion and there will be many difficulties in the future. I am confident that the accumulation of human experiences will lead to correct progress, creating a passionate effort to overcome tough difficulties. In the framework of families and social organizations, we have adapted ourselves to such complexities, which are diversifying values. Even in judgment of right and wrong, we do not judge justice only by authorities or opinions of mass media, but we consider that they are just one of viewpoints. Therefore, we need to have a way to open our mind and communicate others instead of barking inside as being suspicious of others. How can we recognize each other and collaborate? Just like getting used to convenience once, you become uncomfortable with inconvenience, current our situation cannot restore to the original, so that we shall go ahead only in some way better. To that end, it seems necessary to think about how to contribute to the change of individuals and social organizations in future, considering the way of life that has reached the intellectual beings.
1. Fundamental Force
Human being is the result from the development of the past many species until having reached the present form, and we think about the basic force in the life activities. In the living things, there are always chemical reactions, electrons and ion movements, which occurring the state of change of substances, due to the life activities. There should be some force working there to control these activities as one life being.
In general, organisms are not born in an adult form, but from the eggs or spores to the adult through larvae, and the circulation has repeated, contributing to reproductive. Because of the process of growth and the repetition of birth and death, organisms could match the environment during the changes of generation while making mutations. If so, “Life” that had gotten a planetary earth that was suitable for living, and arose there, and it seemed to be destined to proceed all the way to the completed planet. Now, the life that happened to the earth has filled the wide planetary surface with various living things, creating an environment where they activate and collaborate.
Even though the whole creatures of the earth are culmination of exactly complex movements, it is not such a complexity as it cannot solve by intertwining, but there is effective cooperation and regeneration with redundancy. It is a comprehensive and systematic whole system involving all substances.
The life that has formed the whole system on the planet that had gradually built over a long time after the first cell was born in the water of the sea. Living cells organically assembled complex polymers such as amino acids and proteins and autonomously did life activities there. The initial individuals of life started to move in the sea by obtaining some means of movement, and landed from the sea changing the state to expand. In addition to a precise system in which many cells incorporated, life developed the nervous system, creating a control area called the brain. Moreover, this trend continues to extremely complicated cerebrum as humans.
Creatures that have survived on the earth overcame the harsh environment, and there must have been many extinct species behind current living beings. Depending on the pressure from the environment, living organisms selected forms and functions favoring survival, and discarded those that were not necessary. The shapes of the current living things are the results of such accumulation of selections against the harsh conditions. The reason that organisms could overcome various difficulties such as environmental changes and foreign enemies seems that there was a fundamental and positive force in a life thing. The organisms could realize mutation and maintain survival because they have such force to cling to life. In addition, it is also the force to mutate to more complicated one. The force that sticks to living and goes complicatedly is the foundation of living things, and it has leaded to the achievement of human beings, followed by the directions, it has developed mind and spirit with awareness of self-consciousness.
2. Consciousness Rising Along Complexity
Even though many substances tend to gather, one cell is not simply a mass of many substances such as macromolecules. There are membranes separated from the outside world, the internal functions organize in an orderly manner, the basic power of "living activity" works. When there is an imbalance such as shortage or excess of substances inside it, the appropriate action takes place to solve. Living organisms get materials necessary for its activation from the outside world as food. Even if they depended on accidental situations in getting foods at the early stage, but as the experiences accumulated, there was a change that adapted to the circumstances and positively identified foods and got them, which adding complex functions to the living organisms. The desire to stick to living tended to extend to efficient behavior, which overlapped with the movement of becoming complex organization. The force to make sure keeping alive status had completed the complicated mechanism and had engraved information in genes to reconstruct the same structure as itself, even if it was a single celled organism.
In addition, this force developed a sensory organ that identified whether the subject was food or not. Various trials and errors of such life fixed in a specific behavior pattern when the efficient results obtained, and it engraved the pattern in the gene. A confident method ensured the actions that followed the next generation, and that memorized as a behavior pattern with the interrelationship between the unique behavior and the surrounding environment.
In the form of animals, which became a more complicated stage of living form, the brain occurred in the nervous system, and it worked as an area to control and memorize behavior, adding the function of “emotion” there. Emotion occurred in the brain such as satisfaction that could gain food or as fear of dangerous enemies, accompanying the outcome of acting. When the association between emotion and behavior linked with memories, the emotion promoted hormone secretion, become more efficient and lead to immediate action, because of the information whether safe or dangerous for an object that are perceived from sensory organs. In animals, the fact that they formed the brain and acquired emotion should have gained efficient actions raising learning activity. I think that life has a fundamental force that becomes complicated and progresses intensive desire to satisfy, adding various functions, it seems that it raised the degree of consciousness step by step.
In other words, the movement in which the shape of animals became increasingly complicated was not only changes in visible outlooks but also developing nerves that convey information from sensory organs and brains that control that information, there occurred a change related with the whole organization. Therefore, it was a change that efficiently integrated the whole thing that cooperated with the behaviors of an individual, such as the identification of the object according to the situation, the choice from association with the emotion, and the decision to take an actual action.
Moreover, actions of animals cooperated with memories, added such as fulfillment or fear of emotions, have made “a pattern”. When the behavior patterns repeated, it constructed own behavior patterns of the species, because living things have a mechanism that translates into genes and fixes into the arrangement of proteins. Therefore, when an organism acquired such functions to overcome harsh condition in the environment or difficulties against a foreign enemy, the individual has mutated in a complicated direction, integrating into the whole organization. From these kinds of movement, organisms have moved to make the organization more complex, as if the force promoting the will to live better. Here, I feel it is “Consciousness of Life”.
Therefore, when organisms overcame difficulties, if we assume the “Consciousness of Life” there, living things should have taken a trial in a more efficient and complicated direction rather than a random response. So that evolution should fix in a complicated direction since the latest trial was effective after many trials doing for generations. The force, which caused the choice of the direction more complex has been tenacity of living better, that is, the raising power of “Consciousness of Life”. Living organisms that have overcome difficulties with effective mutations have made survival secure by their organization becoming complicated. It paraphrases that the change of mutation is the same as the degree of “Consciousness of Life” has risen compared to the previous state. In other words, organisms evolved and complicated themselves, proceeding to raise their “Consciousness of Life”. This proceeding direction overlapped with the way to intellectual life of human beings.
3. Complexity of Humans
Currently, human beings are the most complex organisms on the planet. We, humans, developed a cerebrum bigger with bipedal walking, developed a mechanism capable of subtle pronunciation on the structure of throat, and realized exchanging detailed information by language. Therefore, many individuals collaborated to enrich the organization and the complexity of society further increased. Moreover, the human brain developed thought by language and got the concept of time from the past to the future. Humans have overwhelmed other animals by planned actions predicting the future, as if human beings monopolized the whole earth by themselves. The human brain can function not only to memorize diverse experiences but also to judge flexibly with expectation and curiosity and to pursue creativity as well as efficiency for living. In other words, humans can act on our own making desire beyond the frame of fundamental desire required for survival. We seek to enrich the circumstances of substances and enrich our heart or mind, and when we strongly hope for it, we will concentrate and act with the passion to realize it.
Human senses can distinguish more than the difference in frequency, when we receive electromagnetic waves and sound waves from sensory organs. We can create a world beyond reality by adding individual rich feelings. One of them is the heart to understand art or music, with excitement in the scenery and tone, it brings us richness and stability in mind, so that it is a special feeling to the intellectual rising given to humans. Not limited to the appreciation of art or music, our senses can accompany various emotions, which are not only electrochemical information from sensory organs but also enthusiasm with the rising heart and enthralling time. In other words, it is like a feeling that resonates with the subject and the mind interesting in it. With such a high abstraction feeling, it seems that there is a spirit effect that all of ours are involved.
On the other hand, the society that human beings created and the individuals have activated it to continue, and it becomes complicated just like a living organism. So many varieties of values incorporate into groups and social organizations, and complexity have processed the increasing of repression and restraint. There are diversities of individual differences, formed by the way of living, social disciplines, customs and circumference makes differences in the degree of adaptation. There should be some personality those who are out of the normal range, and there are cases where it became suppression to the inside without self-consciousness. The symptoms such as personality abnormality and adaptation disorder diversify, according to each personality expanding diversely due to the complexity of the human relationships, and the various diseases will differentiate complicatedly. Human cerebrum is still in the process of evolution, repeated trial and error corresponding to surrounding complexity. Moreover, human beings are still young as a life species, about a few hundred thousand years. The current stage is only to the extent that we can clearly recognize our own self-consciousness by strengthening the function of the cerebrum and it is not yet ready to move to the next stage. We must continue to accumulate overcoming experiences of conflicts between our own aimed actions and the better things into the direction to the next stage. It is an ordeal given to current humans who are aware of own self-consciousness.
4. New Imbalances created by Humans
The life activities have kept for long time by "Consciousness of Life" that have been rising along with evolution of living organisms. In other words, the automatic processes have developed up to humans keeping life activities without considering by own selves. The ability to sustain living as an organism, consistently maintains the equilibrium of the body autonomously. Conversely, if we try to control these internal life activities by individual thought, the structure of the body is so complicated that we cannot fully control our body mechanisms. The force to maintain living makes it center on the whole body and gives consistency to the individual, and therefore it is what we call "Consciousness of Life". It never directly links to our will of humans thinking and acting by the cerebrum, but it fully controls and manages the complex mechanisms autonomously as a life being.
In other words, "Consciousness of Life" is a force that holds an individual being, and it centers on the living activities, apart from individual will. Moreover, this consciousness leads living things towards becoming more complicated and arising consciousness. However, the actions that occurred from thinking or emotions of humans those who have various desires do not directly relate with the “Consciousness of Life” that keeps the body autonomously, so that there is a possibility of conflicts between them. In the case of humans, they do not act directly on the desire from the inside of the body but act mainly by personal orientation, situation or efficiency. There are cases where it is suppressed from customs and morals, or our situation, even though we have our own desire. Still, a human can think his own desire and have a will to realize it, because he is aware of his self-consciousness. In the present, however, we humans do not understand all the complexity of the mechanisms of both individual body and social dynamism, so that we experience some conflicts due to our unbalanced actions without knowing. For example, if we excessively ate and drank from our desires, it causes diseases such as gastritis when it deviated from the normal range of excess. It is a warning from “Consciousness of Life” that the body was out of control in the unbalanced status, and then we found out a problem by ourselves against normal activities. The humans who developed the cerebrum have grown with many complicated experiences, which are accumulating various suppressions for our actions to do by the thinking of our brain.
On the other hand, diversification of personality extends social imbalance. To control this imbalance, the organization needs to make the centering force stronger. When individuals gather in society with many individual values, we should not apply “majority vote” to choose the right direction. Because a person can consolidate with some lies to make it convenient only for him, he can instigate many people, and can pursue a society centered on his own desires. Humanity cooperation cannot realize in the cases that one person or group is overwhelming and truncating others with self-focused desire. When an excessive imbalance occurs in a society, it will be a society sick, so that there will be coming a warning from the collected “Consciousness of Life”. Now humans are clearly aware of self-consciousness, in addition, we are going to move towards social cooperation, along with almost everyone. For that, people must think the method to cooperate strongly centering correctly, involved the diversely expanded personality. So that in the collection of "Consciousness of Life" that has been aware of suffering social sick, people should strive with enthusiasm to resolve and accumulate experiences of overcoming the sick. Continuing society in the future is the same as life continuing to live.
It is necessary to collect people who think about the future, to nurture cooperating ways, and to accumulate the experiences. So that, many individuals in humans will have the ability to overcome various complexities and to accumulate experiences against confusing situations. We should understand the next human’s direction in which life becomes complicated, and should grasp the way we should go, and we have the passion to face with difficulties. We need to monitor whether it is the right direction or not, constantly. What we have in our deep area is our own "Consciousness of Life", its basic functions are to identify, to select, and to combine, and it knows the direction to the next stage, so that all humans will be able to go together to a more complex organization that cooperates and rises.
5. Evolution of Consciousness
Despite that all things are composed of substances called “elements”, the lumps of living things have changed in a complicated direction, maintaining a living activity inside in itself. Therefore, we may think that all substances have life-leading nature. Therefore, the structure of this universe seems to be insufficient to be explained only by the physical properties such as electrons and protons. I think, in the universe, something that defines the "axis of complexity" in the fundamental movement, and it is the exact characteristics of "Life". In other words, there is an axis that goes through complexity along with life in this universe and that is a fundamental characteristic from the birth of the universe. Initially all substances of the universe are in a stage before consciousness, and after consciousness of life coming, there occurs a flow, which becomes complicated little by little until life comes to completion.
This consciousness is what a living thing has in principle, it has the direction of "going better to live", which is the force to raise it to intellectual life by complicating itself. This consciousness senses the imbalance occurring inside the living organism, and it causes action to balance it, sustains activation, and creates a change to an effective function according to the environment around. Moreover, the “Consciousness of Life”, controlling a living organism, organizes intensely towards the center more strongly, as the step of species progressing with the axis of complexity. The flow has increased complex and raised consciousness adding effective functions by various trials, and their behavior patterns reduced to gene information and the whole process of living individuals have continued.
The flow of life is a flow of consciousness rising, so that a flow forms a causal part of time series in three-dimensional space, and there is a position where consciousness becomes complicated every unit time. In the way of life becoming complicated, we cannot count so many species that had been in the direction to striking a blind alley and disappeared. Living beings have remained only when they could overcome many of the difficulties, even if they could complete the centering as an individual and could keep equilibrium. The flow that become complicated could not keep going without causing corresponding disorders or confusion. Although anguish and severe to overcome it, it should be a wall to overcome, if we cannot go beyond it, we will disappear. We should not be afraid of the height of the wall, and we should not stay in laziness or boredom shutting down others.
Humans have many problems to solve in the current confusion, for instance, prevention of illness, welfare of society, and so on. Moreover, we must think about how to hold delicate balance of our mind or spirit. While people such as genius and gifted will appear, conversely personality disorder or spiritual illness will continue to increase. How to trend toward this diversification and confusion will be quite a difficult problem for humanity in the future. However, it is an unavoidable road for “Consciousness of Life” to have proceeded always in life. Still, mutations are always taking place in individual genes or social organizations. Since there are various values as individual personality, it is inevitable that some conflicts in people or groups occur due to the differences. Sometimes there will arise a crisis against sustaining life, from the selfish desires of humans. However, we cannot forget that as the direction of life, that is, the force of "Consciousness of Life" is working in all processes of evolution until intellectual life. Therefore, ahead of us, there should be higher and clearer consciousness.
Summary
Knowledge on evolution of living things has increased, and we have become clear for one thing. That is always going up a complex direction since life occurred. In that flow, a living organism secured own organization that fully retained alive at each stage, and leaped into complexity to the next stage of species. We, human beings, are forced to participate in such process. The next stage for us is not yet clear, but the next step certainly depends on the process that the present humans select at this moment. It is also certain that the choice arises from all the experiences that have accumulated from the past.
Mutation of living organisms stacked in this planet has been consistent with the becoming complexity towards intellectual life, as it was cultivated by mutual relationship in the earth. The axis of this flow started from the pre-stage of consciousness inherent in all substances, then it has come to the stage of consciousness in humans that is clearly aware of self-consciousness, further it will open the future with the mind and spirit of next humans. This is a big flow related to the whole life of the earth, and current humans are at the crossroads to select the direction of the next stage. This is an inevitable flow for us along with the direction of “Consciousness of Life”, in fact it is a road with suffering and difficulties. To have become more complicated is to overcome corresponding confusion and obstacles to live better with appropriate experiences. That effort will lead to the development to the next stage. The fact that the present humans have clearly recognized themselves is merely a starting point toward the consciousness of the next stage.
