On the strength of a terrific second half in 2014, Aoki posted an overall .285/.349/.360 batting line that was reasonably close to his career norms. However, the outfielder hit just one homer after belting 18 from 2012-13, and his stolen-base total (17) decreased for the second straight year. The 33-year-old should remain a steady on-base option with the ability to top 15 steals in 2015 thanks to his high-contact approach and solid batting eye, but he may be hard-pressed to recoup his lost power after moving from one pitcher-friendly park -- in Kansas City -- to another in San Francisco via free agency.

Despite tossing a career-low 144 1/3 innings, the righty finished 10th in the American League in strikeouts (182) due to a terrific 11.3 K/9 rate. The Japanese hurler also sharpened his control for a second straight year, walking 3.1 batters per nine innings. Expected to be ready before Opening Day, the ace could lead baseball in strikeouts and challenge for the AL Cy Young Award with a full slate of starts in 2015.

However, the righty posted a 7.88 ERA in his final 32 innings of the year and finished with a mark (3.52) that was 0.86 runs higher than the 2.66 ERA he posted in 2013. On the contrary, the Japanese starter was sharper than ever in the control department (career-low 1.1 BB/9 rate), and he posted personal bests in K/9 rate (7.7) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.3). Following a normal offseason routine, the 33-year-old should produce sparkling ratios in 2015.

The Japanese-born Tanaka excelled during his first season in the United States, posting a 12-4 record, a 2.51 ERA and a 7.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio across his first 18 starts. The right-hander suffered a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow in July, but he opted for rehab over surgery and came away with no further issues after returning for two late-September outings. If his elbow holds up in 2015, Tanaka could challenge for the American League Cy Young Award.

Uehara finished 2014 with a 2.52 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP, numbers that many relievers would sign up for if given the chance. But said stats actually represented a step back for the right-hander, who dominated throughout the prior season. A skid from Aug. 16 onward -- during which Uehara posted an 11.74 ERA and lost his closer's role -- largely hurt his overall line. Nevertheless, the 39-year-old has the skills -- as evidenced by a career 9.0 K-to-BB ratio -- to bounce back in 2015.

Suzuki hit a solid .284 for the Yankees in 2014, but his contact skills regressed in considerable fashion. The veteran whiffed in a personal-worst 17.7 percent of his plate appearances, up from 11.4 percent in ’13. Without forging a turnaround in that regard, Suzuki may be hard-pressed to bat above .270 in '15. The outfielder did remain active with his legs in ‘14 -- swiping 15 bags despite logging a career-low 385 plate appearances. But a decline in average would likely result in fewer chances to run in ’15, when he is expected to serve as the Marlins’ fourth outfielder after signing with the team in the winter.
