10月10日に棋王戦挑戦者決定トーナメント準々決勝で対戦。高橋９段とは相性が良く、通算17勝2敗で、現在9連勝中。一時は最強棋士と言われた高橋９段は、精彩がない。将棋年間では、自己紹介欄で、相変わらず訳のわからない英語を使っている。羽生の圧勝で、改めて羽生の強さを思い知らされるだろう。

This is just as bad for the Yankees, losing these last three to the Tigers this way, not even competing in the last two, as losing four in a row to the Red Sox two years ago. These Yankees have now become the biggest postseason flops in the history of the team, maybe any team. This year George Steinbrenner went for a payroll of $213 million and gave Brian Cashman and Joe Torre the run of the place. Here is what that kind of money and that kind of restraint bought Steinbrenner: the most expensive glass jaw of all time, a team that gets knocked out cold in the first round again.
