secondment

今週の土曜日はまた卓球の試合があり、１１月も卓球の試合が３回もあり、２８日にはハーフマラソンもあり、スポーツのシーズンですが、今度の日曜日は午前中に大阪から来る桂かい枝さんの英語落語を聴き、午後は赤毛のアンの研究者、翻訳者の松本侑子先生の講演会が地元の図書館で開かれ、貴重な話が聴ける滅多にないチャンスがあるので、楽しみにしています。
さて、Reader's Digest 8月号のBonus Read、オーストラリアのニュースリポーターが自分の父と祖父が亡くなった土地であるパプアニューギニアを訪ねる旅行記にあった文です。

"second" だけでも名詞ですが、それに "ment" が付くとどんな意味になるのでしょうか？
・Macmillan Dictionary: a period when you are sent by your employer to work for a different organization or a different part of your organization
・Collins English Dictionary: (Brit) a temporary transfer to another job or post within the same organization
私は会社に入って２年目に子会社に出向、その年度末に初めての海外出張を命じられましたが、"secondment" は出向の事なのですね。今まで出向と言うのに単に "transfer to" を使っていましたが、これからは "secondment" が使えますね。
