Golden Week is a Great Week

2024年05月10日 | ★STARRY★

GW is the best time to do everything because it's a holiday and the weather is perfect for some outdoor activities. For me, GW is camping time. Camping is a popular way to travel in Japan. During the warmer months, camping spots get very busy on holidays such as the Golden Week (roughly April 29 to May 5), Obon (weekend of August 15th), on summer weekends, and generally mid-July to August. Camping is particularly popular with those traveling by bike, motorbike, or car, as access via public transport can be difficult. However, with some preparation, it’s also possible – Japanese public transport is really well developed.

Camping may not be the most popular travel option with foreign visitors, but for us foreigners living in Japan, it`s a must. It’s a great way to add some adventure to your Japan living experience. It is also a great way to get out of the tourist paths, escape the bustle of the city, meet Japanese people, and also travel for less.

There are many public campsites all over the country. We went to a free campsite in Ohira and Tome for a 4-day camping experience. We had fun under lush green trees played in the river and ate all day and the most exciting part was our BBQ and bonfire. Yes, they allow camping in a tent, BBQ, and bonfire. The cars can be parked in a parking lot, or near your spot.

The campgrounds offer a varying range of amenities such as showers, restrooms, electricity, BBQ tables, and sometimes even hot springs, tennis courts, or fishing areas. But our campsite only offers a toilet. That`s why before moving to another campsite we took a shower at our friend`s house and set for another camping adventure.

It was a fun camping adventure.
