今日、スターリーは大掃除でした。
朝から窓、机、ホワイトボード、本棚を拭いてピカピカにしました！
クリスマスは、まだこれからですが、
一足お先にスターリーの教室はクリスマスから冬のデコレーションに変わりました！
英検４級の補習レッスンに来るお友達は、明日１０時から始まりますので、お忘れなく！
あとひと踏ん張り一緒にがんばっていきましょう！

あと3日でクリスマスですね
先週のChristmas craftの様子を本日もお届けしたいと思います！
紙粘土をアイシングに見立ててGinger bread manを作成しました
アイシングしたことある子は少なかったと思いますがみんなとても上手に作っていました
いつか本物のクッキーとアイシングをつかってアイシングクッキー作ってみたいですね

先週は、今年最後のレッスンでした。みなさん、お越しいただきありがとうございます！！！
もうすぐクリスマスということで、今年のスターリーでは全クラスでクリスマスクラフトを作りました！
ToddlerクラスとKinderクラスでは、顔写真付きのサンタクロースです。自分たちの手の形がサンタのお鬚になります（笑）
みんな手が小さくて、かわいいサンタクロースができました。
小学1年生から4年生クラスでは、ジンジャーブレットマンを作りました。クリスマスの香りを体験してもらいたく、
シナモンやクローブなどを配合した液をつくって、茶色に染めてアイシングもしました！さっそくバックにつけてくれてる子もいました！
小学5年生から高校生のみなさんは、クリスマスキャンドルを作りました。
こちらもクリスマスの香りを体験してもらいたく、
アロマを調合して、クリスマスらしい飾りでデコレーションをしました。赤い実のナンテンは、私の祖父母宅の庭からとってきました
（笑）
今週末が、クリスマスですね！ぜひご自宅に飾って、素敵な日を過ごしてください

今日で今年のレッスンは終了です。
そんな今朝は、雪景色で始まりました。
教室に来る時、青葉山を通って来るのですが、
ところどころで車が立ち往生していました・・・・。
数日前にタイヤ交換を終えたところだったので、
何とか事なきを得ました。セーフ！
今年最終週のレッスンでは、どこのクラスでもクリスマスのクラフトを実施しています。
特に小学生以上のクラスでは、クリスマスの香をテーマにしたクラフトです。
日本では、普段あまり馴染みのない香りが教室中に漂っています。
何年か後に、今日嗅いだこの匂いにどこかで出会った時、
スターリーのクリスマスを思い出してもらえたら嬉しいな！
「くさ～い！」
「うぇ～！」
「やばい、やばい！」
と言いながら、みんな楽しそうに作っています。
今年も１年ありがとうございました。
年明けは１月４日（火）からスタートです。
良いお年をお迎え下さい。

Hello, everyone!! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last day that Starry will have classes in 2021. Christmas is only a week away now, and New Year's Day is also coming up very soon. January 4th will be the first day in 2022 that we will start having classes again. Many of our students have been having fun making a Christmas craft this past week. Grades 1 to 4 have made a cute gingerbread man so far. Here is a photo from today's 5pm class:
From left to right, the students are Miu from Grade 4, Yume from Grade 3, and Mizuki, Sara, & Ayaka from Grade 4. They are holding the Christmas craft they made this afternoon. It looks like a gingerbread cookie!! Everybody did a great job. The students in Grades 5 to 9 have also made something related to Christmas: a kind of candle decorated with some things in nature which smell very nice. It looks like this:
We melted some candle wax and then put some decorations together which smell like Christmas. For example, you can see a cinnamon stick, a dried orange slice, some red berries, a couple of pine cones, and so on. This is actually the one that I made. The students' creations were much better than mine, though! Everyone used their own unique style when they made them. We also added some smells such as peppermint (that's what candy canes smell like!) and then poured the candle wax over the decorations. After the wax became hard again, we put some string through a hole near the top. That way, students can hang those up somewhere if they want to.
Do you know what this picture shows? It's a horse pulling a sleigh, and you might be able to notice that there are some bells on the horse! We often think of this image when we sing the famous Christmas song "Jingle Bells", because we can hear the horse's bells as it pulls the sleigh forward. People in cold places used to often travel that way during the winter season. At Starry, some of our students have been singing this song in the December classes. And some of them have been singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" or "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". These are popular holiday songs, too! Remember, Santa is coming pretty soon. So I hope all of our kids at Starry have been good this year. If so, then maybe some of them will get presents from Santa Claus in about a week...
Oh, look! Here he comes!!! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone. I hope you all enjoy your winter break. I look forward to seeing you again in 2022!!

私は IT 企業で有名な Sillicon Valley にある SanJose という街及びその近辺に10年ほど住んでいました。
San Jose は San Francisco から車で2時間ほどでのところにありますが、田舎でも無く都会でも無く、これと言った観光名所等も無く、正直どうしても退屈な印象が否めません（スミマセン）でした。
そこで週末になると、都会に行きたい時はSan Franciscoに行っていました。
San Francisco の中心には Union Square と呼ばれる広場があり、ここが地理的だけではなく商業の中心になっています。
そしてUnion Squareではこの時期になると、超巨大なクリスマスツリーが点灯されます。
それはそれは幻想的な光景でした。
ちなみに私が通っていた美容院はこのユニオンスクエアのすぐ近くにあり、Toshiさんという日本人が経営していました。
日本で美容師と理容師の免許を保有し、ヘアメイクもばっちり出来るとっても腕の良い美容師さんです。元気にしてるかな？
San Franciscoに行く機会があったら利用してみてはどうでしょう？
それにしても… 懐かしいなぁ

先週の続きで、カナダ・トロントのイルミネーション紹介です
第三弾は、The Distillery Historic District(ディスティラリー地区)です
ビクトリア時代の建造物が広がり、以前はウイスキー醸造所。今は、ショッピングや外食が楽しめる商業施設です。
インスタ映えな場所でも有名です！毎年、クリスマスマーケットが開かれます
昨年は、コロナのためクリスマスマーケットは中止でした
。イルミネーションは例年通りやってくれたので、見に行くことができました
今年は、開催しているようで友達が訪れていました
（私も行きたかった！！！）いつか必ずリベンジ予定です！
ここは、レストランやカフェも併設されているのでイルミネーションをみつつ、そのままごはんも楽しめます
冬のトロントを訪れたら、ぜひ行ってほしいおすすめスポットです

と～っても素敵なEvergreen branchesを分けていただきました。

This is a question I get asked a lot! Many people in Japan are often curious about my reasons for coming here. I didn't really know any Japanese people when I lived in Canada. I'm from the eastern part of the country. That's near Europe, and it's very far away from Asia. So there aren’t a lot of people from Japan there. But I liked languages. I studied French during my Canadian school years. And then I also studied Spanish a little bit, after I moved to the United States. Sometimes I would borrow or buy other languages books, too. One day, my brother introduced me to his new girlfriend. She was Canadian, but she had come to Japan for 2 years to teach English. When she found out I was interested in languages, she suggested I learn Japanese!!
I remember starting to watch old Japanese movies after my brother’s girlfriend told me about Japan. There were often samurai or geisha in those movies. I applied for a job to teach English in Japan, and I was accepted. But when I arrived in Tokyo to begin my training, I was so surprised. I didn’t see any samurai or geisha there at all!!! Japanese men usually wore western-style business suits, and Japanese ladies were very stylish. The women’s clothes were quite fashionable. I guess I should have watched more modern movies about Japan. Ha ha ha…
The picture here shows the clothes that some Japanese people maybe wore a long time ago, but when I came to Japan I didn't find anyone wearing kimonos or samurai clothing. I think that I was a little disappointed at first. However, at Japanese festivals we can sometimes see these kinds of traditional clothes. I really like festivals in Japan because past history is very important. A festival is a sort of "celebration" of customs or traditions from a really long, long time ago. Japan keeps these old customs alive in this way. That's why I love living here now. Canada and America don't have the same kind of long history, so I think North Americans have lost a part of ourselves by not really honoring the past.
And another reason I am happy in Japan is because of the delicious food! Before I traveled to this country, I tried to eat some sushi in a Japanese restaurant. But the restaurant was in the eastern United States, and I think the owners might not actually have been Japanese. The sushi didn't taste so good. I got a little bit of a stomach ache when I ate it. Probably my body was just not used to eating raw food like that. I didn't give up, though!! I continued trying Japanese food a few times when I lived in North America. I found some more delicious restaurants, and my stomach started becoming happier because the food was usually very fresh. Then when I finally arrived in Japan and began to live here, I found out Japanese restaurants in Japan are sooo yummy! These days I love sushi, and tonkatsu, and tempura, and many other kinds of Japanese food.
But of course, I still often eat western food now and then. Kentucky Fried Chicken is my favorite!! Please don't tell my birds about this. ;)

今日は！
先週に引き続きアメリカのダンス事情を少し。
アメリカンスタイルボールルームと共に皆が好んで踊っていたダンスが、Disco Dance でした。
Disco Dance は大体 Hasutle と WestCoastSwing の2本立てです。
私は最初Hustleの流麗さに震えDiscoダンスの虜になりました
靴屋さんで木曜の夜に行われていたHustleのダンスパーティは、映画の中のワンシーンの様で素敵でした
しばらくすると、West Coast Swing の無作為な感じがたまらなく好きになりました。
体形に関係なく誰でも踊れる West Coast Swing! とてもカッコいいダンスですよぉ
日本に帰って来てから東京で一度 West Coast Swing を踊りました。
仙台でやっているところが無いかなぁ…？
Hustle はなかなかやっている場所が見つかりません。
