It was fine weather last weekend and I decided to go on a short trip together with my friends to see Akiu Otaki ( Akiu Great Falls ), one of the top famous waterfalls in Japan. It is a 45-minute drive from my place in Taihaku.

You can see the waterfall either from the observation deck or from the basin below. The scenic view was very impressive. The path to the basin is a steep staircase, but I don’t care I still went down to feel the cold water, and fresh air because of the force of the water rushing from the falls. So going back was a good cardio exercise though, walking through the forest made me feel relaxed because of the untouched nature and its serenity.
After that, we went to a nice soba restaurant called Soan. The place was nice, especially their vegetable tempura, it was delicious. On the way home, I passed by another waterfall and Akiu Jinja Shrine. But I don’t have the energy to check it out.
I can say that, my off-day was a simple day trip yet memorable.
