スターリーライブラリーに新しい本が入荷されました！
英検も終わったので、久しぶりに物語の世界にどっぷり浸かって楽しんでね！

Good afternoon, everyone! The last couple of weeks, I introduced all of Starry's Grade 8 and Grade 9 students except for the Saturday ones. My reason for showing them is to talk about what they are doing for their March presentations this year: SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). So today, I'll tell you about the Saturday students who are in their 2nd and 3rd year of junior high school. They are all taught by Dennis, who took their photos during the first half of January.
First, here are Tomohiro and Yume O. (both in Grade 8). Their topic is SDG #10, which is "Reduced Inequalities". They've been researching how to help everyone have equal opportunities, regardless of disabilities, age, race, gender, or where people live (etc.).
Next, the 2 students shown above are Yume T. and Tomoka (who are in the 8th grade). The SDG they have chosen is #12: "Responsible Consumption and Production". In other words, they are looking at ways for people to not waste food or other important things which are produced.
And the group in this photo consists of Miyu and Yuri (both in Grade 8 as well). Their topic for this year's presentation is SDG #2, which is "Zero Hunger". It would be nice someday to live in a world where nobody is hungry, don't you think? They are researching about that issue now. Finally, our two Saturday Grade 9 students are Miyako and Yuka. They are doing SDG #8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth) plus SDG #9 (Industry, Innovation, & Infrastructure). That means they are researching things such as technology and the kinds of good jobs that we want everyone to have in the future, so that the world economy (経済) can continue to grow.
Each of these 4 groups is working hard to prepare for their speeches at our special March event (発表会). I hope all of Starry's junior high students can enjoy talking about (and learning about) these interesting subjects in English! Keep up the good work...

もうすぐ節分ですね！
節分とは、「鬼を追い払って新年を迎える、立春の前日の行事」で、今年は2月3日です。

さて、この時期になると私が楽しみにしているのが、でん六豆のCMです。

バレンタインが近づいてきたのでチョコレート系の飲み物をよく見かけるようになりました
最近飲んだものを紹介したいと思います
まずはローソンのホットチョコレートです
とろけるチョコモ～モ～という商品名なんですが、店員さんに中々商品名が伝わらなくて恥ずかしかったです（笑）
溶かしながら飲んでいくスタイルで楽しみながら飲めました
渡されるカップの色が違うのがまたいいですね
次にマックのGODIVAのコラボのホットチョコレート
甘すぎず、程よく苦みを感じてとても美味しかったです
しっかり混ぜてから飲むとおいしいです！
個人的に一番好きです
次はスタバのトリプル生チョコレートフラペチーノ
とても甘くて、甘党の私にとっては最高なフラペチーノでした
ホットやホワイトもあるので、期間中に飲みたいなと思っています
最後にマックのホワイトチョコストロベリーフラッペです
甘すぎずイチゴ感があってとてもおいしかったです
マックカフェで飲めるのでぜひ！
おすすめな食べ物や飲み物があったら是非教えてください

ついでに買ってしまいました
（笑）ホットサンドメーカーを。
パンの耳までカリカリにしたい派の私は、直火型にしました！
久しぶりに食べたいなぁとおもっていたので、これからはいつでも自宅で作れます
中に何を挟んで作ろうか...

毎回、英検対策クラスを担当すると思うのですが、
試験に合格するか合格しないかは、
最終的に自分に自信があるか自信がないかということに尽きます。
そんなことは、当たり前と言えば当たり前です。
では、自信とは何か？（禅問答のようになっていますが・・・・）
それは、読んで字のごとし「自分を信じること」
それではどうすれば「自分を信じること」ができるのか。
それは、「自分で決めたことは最後までやること。」
話は、私事になりますが、
今では趣味になったジョギングですが、
これを日課にするまでに、けっこう年月を要しました。
新年の抱負に掲げては、何年越しで成就したのか・・・・。
それを成功させた私の方法は、
「自分で決めた距離は最後まで走ること。」でした。
例えば、「今日は3Ｋ走る！」と決めたら、途中できつくなっても３Ｋ走り切る。
「今日は、あそこの公園まで行って帰ってくる！」と決めたら、
途中きつくなってヘロヘロになっても
（人からはどう見られていても関係ない無視！無視！とつぶやきながら）
とにかく走り切る。
これの繰り返しで、いつしか走らないとスッキリしない感じになりました。
自分を信じて、コツコツと積み上げていけば
必ず結果はついてくる！
自分を裏切らない！
それが自信じゃないかと思います。
今週は英検の模試を行っています。
いよいよ日曜日は本番です。
自分を信じて試験に臨んでいきましょう！

Hello from Starry! Continuing my blog from January 14th, today I'd like to introduce the rest of the Grade 8 students at our school who come during the week. We also have one class of Grade 9 students who have lessons from Tuesday through Friday; they attend every Wednesday. So I'll talk about them now, too. Just as a reminder: last time, I told you about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the Tuesday and Wednesday second year junior high school students are working on for their March presentation. And next time, I'll introduce all the Grade 8 and Grade 9 students that DON'T have classes on weekdays. They come on Saturday instead, and are usually taught by Dennis rather than me.
First up, here are Megumi, Karin, and Chihiro. They've been attending the 3rd year junior high class on Wednesday evenings. They have chosen the #14 SDG topic: "Life on Land". Earlier this week, they started doing research about problems (such as extinction, or 絶滅) faced by animals and other forms of life.
Now onto the Grade 8 students! This photo shows the Thursday group of Mahiro, Hayato, and Hiroto. Their SDG topic is #13: "Climate Action". They have begun to research problems like global warming (地球温暖化). As you can see from their poses, they want to fight hard to help save Earth! (By the way, last week I made a mistake in my blog when I called SDG #13 "Life Below Water"; that topic is SDG #14 instead.)
The photo above shows the other Thursday Grade 8 group of Tohka, Yukino, Towa, and Kotoka. They also have selected SDG #13 "Climate Action". Some SDG topics are so important, more than one group of students have decided to do a presentation about the problems our planet faces.
And here are the Friday second year students, beginning with Yoho and Hidaka. They are working together on SDG #7: "Affordable and Clean Energy". Humans always need a lot of energy souces, and some of the ones we are using now will probably not be available in the future.
The final group I'm introducing is Kanae, Karin, and Urara. These Grade 8 students have also chosen SDG #13: "Climate Action". I am very excited to hear all of the student presentations this year, because I am sure that young people have some really good ideas about what we can do to make the world a better place!! Let's hope everyone can work together well, and learn from each other.

無性に食べたくなる時があるマックのポテトですが、年末に引き続きまたSサイズのみの発売になってましたね
今回は1か月ほど続くようです。。。ですが食べた過ぎて、Sサイズで食べました！
コロナ禍による世界的物流の混乱と船便経由地のカナダ・バンクーバーの悪天候など不測の事態が重なっているのが原因のようです。
今年はバンクーバーでめったに降ることのない雪が降り積もり極寒で、現地の人たちもびっくりしているとのことでした。
秋から春先にかけて雨の日が多いバンクーバーは、レインクーバーと呼ばれるくらい、雨が多い地域です。
日本も今年はすごく寒くて雪も多いような気がしますが、カナダでも同様今年は雪が多いようです。
私が住んでいた、カナダ・トロントでは本日大雪のため市内全域シャットダウンだそうです（笑）
学校はもちろん休みでオンラインレッスン、スーパーなど必要不可欠なお店以外は基本お休みのようです。
また、今年は寒さも一段と厳しいようで先日まで極寒警報がでてました。午前中の気温が－21℃～－28℃の間、風が吹くと－30℃だったそうです。
ちなみに私がトロントにいたとき、－20℃は経験しました（笑）それでも寒かったのに、それ以上なんて…
今週、カナダから帰国して1年を迎えます。あっという間に過ぎましたね。カナダでの生活は一生忘れないというくらいたのしい日々でした。
ちょくちょく写真をみて思い返すことがあるのですが、最近は多い気がします。
（笑）極寒ですが、また絶対行きたい！住みたい！そんな素敵なところです。

先週は、二華、青陵中学の入試が実施され、
今週は、大学受験のための共通テストが行われ
そして、いよいよ来週は英検の本番がやって来ます。
スターリーでは、英検を受ける皆さんは模擬試験をしています。
冬休みのリラックスモードから、シフトチェンジして
あと１週間頑張っていきましょう！
来週も模試を実施します。
納得のいく成績がでるように、この週末もうひと踏ん張りしましょう！

Last week, Yukiko mentioned in her blog (on January 7th) that "Sustainable Development Goals" will be the topic of this year's presentations for junior high school students at Starry. Today, I will introduce the Grade 8 students whose regular Starry classes are on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. By the way, "Grade 8" means that they are in their second year of junior high school. So first, let's meet the three boys who usually come on Tuesday evenings. They are working together as one team:
Their names are Naru, Norihiro, and Hinata. This year they will talk about the #13 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is "Life Below Water". They're researching about fish and other sea animals now. Next, let's meet the girls' team from the same class:
They are working together to research SDG #1, which is "No Poverty". Their names are Nobara, Haruna, and Rinko. They're doing research now on how to help poor people. The Wednesday Grade 8 students are also in two groups. Here is one pair:
They are Yuna and Rennosuke. Their topic is SDG #16, which is "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions". So their research is about how to stop wars and other violence (暴力), plus how we can make a safe world that is fair for everyone. Lastly, let's meet the other Wednesday pair:
This is Chie and Remiri. They will focus on SDG #7, which is "Affordable and Clean Energy". Their presentation will be based on research about energy sources which are not expensive and hopefully don't create much pollution (汚染). Good luck, everyone! We are looking forward to hearing your wonderful ideas this March. Next week, I will try to introduce some more of the junior high school groups.
