 Ahoy Mateys!

What kind of hairstyle do you have? Hairstyles in many countries throughout history are very interesting!

In Japan, Chonmage was very popular in the past. I really can`t understand why they thought this hairstyle was cool!

However, I think the Oiran fashion was very interesting! They wore many hair ornaments and it was considered very eccentric and alternative fashion at the time.

Around the same time, particularly in Europe but also the US, judges wore big white wigs while they were in the courtroom.

The reason why judges wore these wigs is because lice, a parasite, often spread around courtrooms at that time. Courtrooms were very unsanitary and very smelly, so the judges would shave their heads and wear the wigs instead. The courtrooms smelled so bad that they also carried around flowers in their pockets to weaken the bad smell! Yuck!

During the 1960`s, the beehive was a very popular hair style!

It got the name `beehive` because it literally looks like a beehive on a person`s head!

During the 1980s and 1990s in the US, they came up with some really crazy hairstyles! For example the `box cut` was one of the most popular hairstyles of that time! Kid n` Play, two famous actors, made the hairstyle especially popular through their movies and music:

And girls often had very strange updos!

How embarrassing!

Even now, many celebrities and even normal people continue to style their hair in a very eccentric fashion!

So when is you next trip to the hair salon?

Until next time!
