普段は手術を受ける患者の家族でごった返している手術室前の廊下も、今日は「関係者以外立ち入り禁止」の札が立てられ、見張り番の職員がいるだけでひっそりとしています
手術室からICUに続く廊下も同様で、術後感染症に大変気を遣っていることが伺われます
日本の病院と違っているのは、手術室およびICUの入り口に敷いてある大型のバスタオルで、これにクレゾール系の消毒薬がしみ込ませてあり、日本で使われているディスポの粘着シートの代わりで、入室する際にはこれを踏むことで足の裏を消毒します
しかしここまでは解放廊下のため、鳥たちは出入り自由になっています
その後は備え付けのビーチサンダルに履き替えて、手術部の内部に入ることができますが、ここから先は建物の中ですので実際の清潔区域はここからです
この病院の看板の一つである「泌尿器科」は日本よりも範囲が広く、「腎臓内科」、「腎臓外科」、「泌尿器科」および血液透析のすべてを含んでいます
したがって本日の移植手術は、すでに十分な実績を持つ「泌尿器科チーム」によっておこなわれます
レシピエントは29歳の女性で、交通事故外傷で一方の腎臓を失い、残った部分も機能が低下して、危機的な状況にあるそうです
ドナーは4歳年上の実の姉で、マッチングにはまったく問題がないそうですが、1週間前に予定された手術が、ドナーの体調により今日に延期されました
病院をあげて準備をおこない、8時半から始まった手術の成功を祈るばかりです
