After placing fourth in the short program, Ashley Wagner was second in the free skate and placed third overall. She crossed her fingers as she waited for her score in the free. It was a good one, 122.15 points, but her total for two events wasn't enough to boost the 18-year-old from Alexandria, Va., into the second spot.
"I'm just focusing on how far I've come this year," said Wagner, fourth at nationals last year and third in 2008.
"It's been an incredibly stressful year. The fact that I made it to this nationals and put out what I did, I'm happy with that. … Third place isn't actually too bad considering the year that I've had, so I'm okay."
